hysteria. but i would think lots of presidents would want more power - the so called unitary presidency.

Trump hasn't attempted any power plays not in the president's purview

Noise, Donald Trump has conducted himself like a buffoon during his time in office so far. I expect he will continue to conduct himself as a buffoon...and I expect that the people who see nothing wrong with that...will continue to support him.

All that, I see as very unfortunate for our Republic.

that's fine Frank. You don't like his style, I don't like his tweets.
i'm not crazy about noxious loud New Yorkers -they are way down on my list and far too many of them here in Florida.

But how does this lead to "death of democracy" authoritarianism? as Gergen and Axelrod claim?

I'm from New Jersey...I spend LOTS of time in New York. Most people there are friendly...and I can tell you that a narcissistic buffoon like Donald Trump is NOT representative of them.

But how does this lead to "death of democracy" authoritarianism? as Gergen and Axelrod claim?

The road to the death of democracy and to authoritarianism...is not so clearly paved as you seem to want it to be. The people of 1930's Germany did NOT realize what they were cheering...while they were cheering.

They found out.

I hope we do not go down this same path with this abominable person at the helm.

'This is a tidal wave': Democrats blow Republicans out of the water

Democrats swept elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City on Tuesday, prompting pundits and pollsters to predict a Democratic comeback.
Most notably, Democrats made dramatic gains in Virginia, a traditionally purple state that elected Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam and flipped dozens of seats in the state legislature.

Pollsters and pundits voiced collective shock at the strength of Democratic turnout, particularly in Virginia, which is widely viewed as a bellwether of opposition to President Donald Trump.

"This is a tidal wave," tweeted Dave Wasserman, a polling expert who edits the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

"You can't really look at tonight's results and conclude that Democrats are anything other than the current favorites to pick up the U.S. House in 2018," Wasserman tweeted.

You don't understand the FBI scandal ... and that's because you watch only fake news.

I have no respect for out political institutions

Frustration with Congress is one thing, but to say you have no respect for the political institutions is shocking if you really mean it.

How do you know so much about the "FBI scandal" - what news source do you get your imformation from?

McConnell sees a November storm brewing. He’s thinking hurricane-level.

“This is going to be a challenging election year,” McConnell said in a Tuesday interview with the Kentucky Today editorial board. “We know the wind is going to be in our face. We don’t know whether it’s going to be a Category 3, 4 or 5.”

The interview marked some of the bluntest comments this year by the top Senate Republican, who is defending a narrow 51-49 majority in November. McConnell raised the possibility that Republicans will lose their House majority.

McConnell’s remarks came as other prominent Republicans have been issuing warnings about the midterms. After a Wisconsin Supreme Court win by Democrats on Tuesday, Republican Gov. Scott Walker warned of a “#BlueWave” in a post on Twitter.

I have no respect for Congress -neither party.

They can't pass a budget, they have to shove thru Omnibus negotiated by 4 members
instead of separate appropriations -and that leads to the gargantuan spending bills we just had.
Why did we need to increase domestic spending?

They can't declare war. The committee system is stale, they don't face opposition because of gerrymandering and YUGE fundraising. They are beholden to special interests, not their constituents

Where they do things -the fuck up like excessive Russian sanctions. They have no economic ideas-
and where they do they can barely pass anything. The whine and complain but offer no solutions except more partisanship..

The courts used to be a bright spot, but they are becoming inevitably politicized as well.

Congress is utterly useless.

The only place you can keep up with the FBI scandal is Sarah Carter (Circa news) and Hannity.
They've been on this for over a year..the upcoming IG report -pay attention to it..

I sure hope so.. Trump is at heart an autocrat and he treats the presidency like a huge joke on the American people.
Do you think that Trump will have his own version of Deera Square in front of the White House?

What rights has he taken away or proposed to be taken away?

Point out where I said taking away rights. then i will defend it. However I did point out that Trump is trying to destroy our institutions. That is not the same thing. Can you understand the difference?

Former advisor to Barack Obama, David Axelrod, noted that he too is “deeply concerned about democracy,” not merely because of Trump’s behavior but the ways in which he is degrading democratic institutions.

 With the exception of perhaps the individual mandate, all Trump has spent his time doing is undoing Obama's undemocratic executive orders.
