For those on the left rooting for Iran, here is a question

As you twist yourselves in knots over every Trump utterance or this ship passing or that ship passing, ask yourself this question. Absent us just pulling out and leaving, what choice does Iran have but to surrender? What cards do they have to play?

According to you, they have no nuclear weapons to deploy? Their armies and navy have effectively been defeated. Their leadership decapitated.

While you complain about Trump "backing down", he is actually showing restraint. While he may say the words, he doesn't want to completely obliterate the country.

But, the reality is that the regime doesn't have many cards to play. How long do you think they can realistically hold out before reality dawns on them? Sure they don't want to do it. Just like the Japanese and Germans didn't want to surrender. But sooner or later reality comes knocking and as I said as long as we don't prematurely squander our advance, then it isn't a matter of if they will surrender it is a matter of when.

Now how many JPP marxists are up to the task of actually debating this without descending to "Trump said this or Trump said that" or "TACO this and TACO that"?

I don't think many, but I am open to being surprised

First off, no one is rooting for Iran, that’s talk radio rhetoric, pointing out Trump’s blunders is not rooting for Iran, you got to learn the difference between patriotism and partisanship

Second, you are viewing Iran thru western eyes, as the Iraq Iran war showed, they are tenacious, driven not only by political ends but also religious, remember, it is a theocracy and the Supreme Leader is not called such just cause he is head of the Government

Third, the card they have to is Trump, the more he blunders, and says stupid stuff, or as you say “utters,” the more he loses public support. This is why Iran plays him stalling and delaying at every opportunity. This “short and easy” war, one Americans and some of Trump’s own team thought was unnecessary, is about to enter it’s fourth month will no end in sight

Fourth, do you actually believe Iran is going to just surrender its enriched uranium, their ballistic missile/drone capabilities, change their regime, and step back from the Strait in some “deal” without getting major concessions

Trump is dying for an exit ramp, eager for anyway out, don’t be surprised if in the end he cuts some “deal” that falls far short of the reasons he went to war, and, of course he’ll proclaim it as winning, and you’ll believe him

While I have heard nobody cheering for Iran, and believe that to be the comment of an idiot, I believe the only card they have to play is keeping Horumz closed.

What were the goals of this war?

They can't keep it closed. If Trump decided tomorrow to just take over the entire strait, other than the mines, what could Iran do militarily to stop him? Nothing. If Trump wanted to take over the country tomorrow, how could they stop him?

Yes, they are fanatics and yes they believe that by holding out they will leverage anti Trumpers like you. But, they really have no choice if Trump stays the course.

Trump really cannot open it, or he would have done so.

They have a lot of firepower left and as long as they can make a credible threat the Insurance companies are not going to risk insuring that much oil. Many annalists have explained it better than I can, but I see it is true.

I would like the United States to succeed in endeavors that will benefit us.

I do not know the goals of the war in Iran.

I am not an expert in the Hormuz Stright but I have heard several very reputable experts explain it in a way that makes sense to me. Much like how the US could not stop Iraqi militias from placing Bombs on roadsides that blew up our people and trucks.
