Florida book bans - the first step before burning

It is the most bizarre strategy to lighten a severe teacher shortage, attacking teachers.

Worse yet they have expanded out to attacking nurses.

Agreed, but attacking teachers has been going on for at least 30 years. Attacking nurses is a new thing due to lies from the autocratic 45th President.

That is absolutely terrible advice. Bosses will tell you that as long as you do what you are told, they will handle any criminal charges, but they are lying. Worse yet, they are often planning to make a plea agreement if everyone is caught. There is no "my boss told me to do it" defense to criminal charges, no matter what field you are in. This goes more so if you are a licensed teacher. As part of the licensing process, you are pledging to put criminal law ahead of your job.

You're obviously not familiar with teaching profession..
But that's okay... you're not a teacher.... don't you worry teachers are going to be just fine and the kids are going to be the winners in the end...

I taught university courses, and have known many licensed teachers. A licensed teacher has absolutely no "the boss told me to do it" defense when caught committing a crime. Are you sure you were a licensed teacher? You do not seem to know how it works.

No teacher is worried about getting caught committing a crime...especially when it comes to books on the shelf...;) ...You can relax... (ask your "licensed friends" to reassure you)...that is the very least of their worries... once again I taught for more than 30 years... I'm pretty sure I know how it works... Now... Back to Basics ...eventually schools are going to be whst they ate supposed to be again...... it's going to be wonderful...

I am fascinated by the folks on the forum who prefer ellipses to periods or commas. There's another poster who never uses anything EXCEPT ellipses (which he puts as 4 or 5 dots).

What did you teach?

Now there I know you are wrong. Just knowing about a crime, and not reporting it, is a crime for a teacher. Teachers have gone to prison for being in a position they "should have" known about a crime, but did not. They did not commit a crime, but they are going to prison.

Real teachers are very worried about that. They document as much as possible, in hopes of using it in their defense. It is a real thing they have to think about.

You can relax... (ask your "licensed friends" to reassure you).

Clearly not only have you never been a licensed teacher, but you have never met a licensed teacher. Teachers are in a constant worry about getting in trouble. In a way, it is understandable. We let them take care of our most prized thing in the world.

My kids are worth far more to me than my car, and I think that would go for most people. Now thing about valet parkers. If you told them to relax, no one ever crashes cars, and when they do crash cars, no one ever sues... You would be laughed at.

Doubt it. Everyone else I have known who has taught for 30 years tells me that they constantly have to worry about parents complaints, crimes, etc. You say it is an easy job with no worries.

it's going to be wonderful.

Increasing the fear is not going to be wonderful. It is just going to mean fewer teachers.

She doesn't and she wasn't.

Notice how poutraged she is about the teacher that Jarod mentioned at his kid's school. The teacher is not handing out banned books. She merely posted a list of books that have been banned at one time or another, called "Books the government doesn't want you to read." She offers extra credit points to any student who gets one, reads it, and writes about it. To Toxic the fake teacher, this is outrageous and that teacher should immediately be fired. She is an excellent Nazi. In 1933, she would have been gleefully tossing books into the bonfires.

They do seem to be badly treated in general by conservatives, but I was thinking of this new anti-mask law that DiSantis is pushing. It would criminalize nurses for asking people to wear masks.

Seriously? WTF. Wearing a mask is a personal choice except in the health care setting where it is a necessity for the protection of both staff and other patients. Three years later we are still required to wear masks when going to our doc, the lab, or the hospital. COVID isn't the only pathogen out there. I'll have to read up on this latest bullshit. All the problems in the world and that's what DeSatan focuses on -- punishing health care providers and educators.

Found one article about that.

DeSantis wants ban on COVID mask and vaccine mandates to be permanent

Esp. when it comes to child abuse/neglect, threats of suicide or homicide, etc. Those are absolutely serious issues. Now FL wants to put possession of contraband books on the same criminal level.

They absolutely do document everything possible, and always strive to have a paraprofessional or other witness when there are classroom issues such as discipline or a child getting injured. My youngest is an actual special ed teacher, my niece is an elementary teacher, and my son-in-law is a middle school math teacher. Sadly the classroom has become more of an adversarial arena than it is a learning environment. We can thank politicians and administrators who refuse to stand up for their educators, as well as parents like these MAGATs who (despite their own educational shortcomings) want to dictate what is taught and not taught.

This is a person who claimed to have worked in an urban school district, who has referred to the students there as "thugs." I'll leave it to you to decipher what that's a code word for.

I don't know anyone who worries about that...... we're too busy.... I never said it was an easy job... and I never said they're no worries I said we don't worry about book crimes....lol.. there's no increase in the fear you mention.... and there will be far less to worry about in general once teachers are allowed to teach again... that's why we're there after all... keep that in mind and work with your children's teachers...you'll be very very happy with the way things turn out...

No one is being forced to do anything....and no good teacher is worried.... or offering extra credit to read books that are on the list of those not approved;) If a teacher is doing their job they certainly aren't worried about their shelves... or anything else in their room... but their children...and being there for them... if there's inappropriate material in a classroom then it's good to know that it's being removed ... the only people worried about a "felony" are the ones who aren't doing their job properly... and that's easily solved...

There is nothing inappropriate about the books.
