Many local and state governments are using inflation to decrease teachers' pay. Meanwhile their alternatives have pay shooting up much faster than inflation. Are teachers going to become homeless just to keep teaching? Are they going to do that even though they are disrespected, and even hated by Republicans? There is an outer limit.

I mean, if you argue they will take a lot more shit before most of them quit, then we can agree to disagree. But, if your point is they will take unlimited shit, and never quit, that is just crazy.

You do seem to be very confused about the teaching profession... I imagine that's because you're not a teacher... people who want to teach are there to teach children.....and they find a way to make it work... there's always controversy in education... I wasn't supposed to be offering food to students for example... children who are hungry and tired can't learn so what do you think we did?

It's interesting that when Asians immigrate to the U.S., their kids often excel at school and graduate with honors. It's not that they are smarter than native-born kids. Their cultures teach that education is very valuable and necessary to move up. They also teach respect for educators.

I think that if we could solve the problem of disrespect by parents, and encourage more involvement by them in their kids' educations, we would see great improvements.

Education is the magic bullet to solve poverty, and a huge number of other things. Republicans keep claiming we can deregulate our way to prosperity, or move taxes from the rich to the poor our way to prosperity. The real way we get to prosperity is through education.

It's certainly the first step.

Republicans have been wrong for over 30 years...not that I think the Democrats are any better. Just that I used to be a staunch Republican but became disaffected when they become increasingly anti-American.
 
Let's see how many teachers quit because of this book evaluation program.... I'm sure if they do we'll be reading about it... the good teachers aren't going anywhere however...

Teacher salaries are being decreased. Teachers are being attacked by politicians. Their benefits are being taken away from them.

Beyond that, police are attacking them during "active shooter drills." Have you heard of this? It is CRAZY!!!

Right wing groups have given training material to police departments in right wing areas instructing them to shoot teachers with plastic pellets. It is supposedly trains them for active shooters.

A typical training drill would be a group of police entering the school with plastic pellet guns. They then start screaming it is an active shooter situation, and shooting teachers. They usually curse at the teachers telling them how useless they are. The teachers are often injured in the drill.

Why haven't you heard more about this? It is illegal to mention the "drills" to the public, because it supposedly violates student safety.

The big thing Biden, Obama, and Clinton have been pushing was school breakfasts to go along with school lunches. Meanwhile, Republicans want to cancel school lunches.

Hopefully it's more than "those who only teach DeSantis-approved Biblical passages and give all 'A's to Republican children...meaning those who support White Supremacy".

I see it differently. Republicans have been wrong for decades, but in the past they were willing to pull out of their dogmatic wrongness before complete disaster. I do not think that is true anymore. Democrats were better, but not better enough.

America has a huge number of advantages, but that will only stave off disaster for so long.

Next fall, there will be fewer teachers in Florida than there were last fall. Florida was already in bad shape, so this will be a very bad thing.

Top will be debating then that it is not the book banning, but something else. She will be partly right. There are many things that DeSantis is doing wrong at once.

There will be other draconian rules going into effect over the next years, and they will drive even more teachers out of the profession. Teachers salaries will continue to erode. And the blatant hatred of teachers will continue to get worse.

And Florida will continue to lose teachers.

What is DeSantis' plan? Hiring uneducated teachers with ties to right wing groups, and giving them guns to "patrol the schools." These are not sounding like schools anymore. And I am sure more real teachers will leave rather than dealing with fake teachers with guns.

Agreed that Republicans have put themselves on a path to disaster. This began, IMO, at the end of the Cold War and they needed a new platform.

Unfortunately, agreed on both points. Still not better enough for me to vote Democrat, but I'm also not voting Republican. Too much autocratic idealism in both parties for my tastes.

Agreed. Still, I think, and hope, we've bottomed out on our nation's transition and will start working back towards sanity.

The good teachers aren't going anywhere... and those who have a passion for teaching and want to teach will be applying for jobs...

Notice that she's never posted a shred of evidence about being a teacher? No pictures, no redacted pay stubs or certificates? Worst of all, she'd never displayed the characteristics of an experienced teacher.

Our family members' who are teachers have told us about the active shooter drills, but so far none have involved being shot at or even having LEOs on scene to assist in the drills. <-- And this is the other big thing wrong with education in America today. Who the fuck wants to go to work worrying about being shot to death?

Exactly. Keep in mind here that Toxic TOP, on another forum long ago, virulently attacked Mrs. Obama multiple times for her exercise and nutrition for kids FLOTUS projects. She mocked her "man arms" "big booty" and said repeatedly that as FLOTUS she had no business telling schools what to serve the kids, or that they should exercise and move more, because according to Toxic, she was "fat." And this from a person who not only claims to have brought food for kids to school, but who also has claimed to be some kind of sports coach as well.

The hypocrisy is just as unbelievable as the pretense to having been an educator.
