Crossing state lines is too much of a burden, but boating beyond the 3 mile state limit in open waters is okay?

This is the same logic that liberals use when saying that voter ID is too big a hurdle but EBT cards need an ID to get.

States have jurisdiction to 3 miles out. With Florida and Texas, it’s 9 miles on the Gulf side.

That is questionable, but you might be right. It would be tough to outlaw all fishing trips, but possible to outlaw trips out with the intention of getting an abortion. It is also possible that states cannot outlaw such trips. It is uncharted territory.

That is charted territory. Because the guns are intended to be brought back into the state, it can easily be made illegal. If you intend to leave the gun you just bought outside our territorial waters, then you might be able to get away with it, but you really do not.

They have tried to sell alcohol(during prohibition), drugs, and even guns from international waters. Usually, because the contraband is feeding smuggling, the ship is raided by the Coast Guard, or other law enforcement. Blackwater was selling guns in the Indian Ocean, when the Indian Navy arrested them.

Illinois gun laws are weak(outside Chicago), so people can just cross the street to buy guns just outside Chicago. Lake Michigan is an inland lake, so there are no international waters involved in it. There is not even an international border, but I do not think a border with Canada would get you easier gun laws.

Abortion does not involve smuggling anything back... But gun sales do.
