Flint Residents Getting Past Due Notices for Poisoned Water Bills???

That's bullshit, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) whole raison d'être is to know that!

lol.....you might be surprised to learn that they have a wide range of responsibilities......I think the average person follows the theory, 'garbage in, garbage out'.......not 'new garbage gets created in between'........

Actually, that is precisely why they were supposed to treat the water. For that very reason. That is why those at the Water board were fired. There was failure at many levels, but it was their ineptitude that led to this. The EPA failed to report it. The city manager failed to tell the citizens. The governors office also failed to inform the citizens.
from what I have read of the reports the failure was a result of testing for baseline instead of results......they had expected the issue was going to be change over time, not "holy shit, this crap is poison NOW".........

what did you confess?.....

SNYDER CONFESSED PASTOR
Snyder calls Flint crisis his 'Katrina,' admits he knew of lead concerns last summer

“It’s a dis*aster,” he said when asked about the com*par*is*on some crit*ics have made to the 2005 nat*ur*al dis*aster in New Or*leans that be*came a sym*bol of gov*ern*ment mis*man*age*ment—city, state, and fed*er*al. “It’s clearly a neg*at*ive on what we’ve ac*com*plished since I’ve been gov*ernor.”

In a wide-ran*ging in*ter*view on the eve of his state of the state ad*dress, Snyder said he knew last sum*mer about his top aide’s con*cerns that Flint res*id*ents were “get*ting blown off” by the Michigan’s De*part*ment of En*vir*on*ment*al Qual*ity. The MD*EQ waved off his of*fice’s con*cerns, Snyder said. He ac*cep*ted re*spons*ib*il*ity for the lack of ad*equate fol*low up, but the twice-elec*ted GOP gov*ernor said he would not heed calls for his resig*na*tion.

“I want to solve this prob*lem,” Snyder said. “I don’t want to walk away from it.” Both MD*EQ’s dir*ect*or and chief spokes*man were forced to resign, and Snyder has taken sev*er*al steps—al*beit be*latedly—to help Flint identi*fy the ex*tent of the con*tam*in*a*tion and to re*spond to it. He said more ac*tion will be re*vealed in Tues*day night’s ad*dress.

EPA Political Operation Attempts A Face Lift:

Gina McCarthy, US EPA head administrator

McCarthy’s one-day visit to Flint was a politically orchestrated effort at damage control engineered from the highest levels of government. She said in her remarks, “We also know that the level of trust needs to be rebuilt here.”

'The event took place under the shadow of a political crisis over the two-year failure of local, state and federal officials to protect the 100,000 residents of Flint from the poisoning of the water system.

Are We the Reflection of the Response to Flint's Trouble?

Political Crisis Over Flint Poisoning Intensifies as Congress Holds Hearing:

'Assiduously avoided was any mention of the connection between the crisis in Flint and the bankruptcy in Detroit, of which the effort to privatize the latter’s utilities was a primary motivation for removing Flint from the DWSD. Instead, Democratic and Republican officials took turns shifting blame along partisan lines while making demagogic and empty gestures of contrition to the residents of Flint.'

Shifting blame along partisan lines?
Demagogic and empty gestures?

Familiar?

Here's something else that escapes attention. So far as I [at least] know, not one, solitary lead pipe in Flint, MI has been replaced. If I'm wrong, please tell me.

In fairness, it seems that this is at least in the planning stages.

But there is still the question of the pernicious class-based austerity agenda which drove this process in the first place... Crickets.

'The mutual finger-pointing and hand-wringing of the rival factions in Congress only serves to highlight the fact that the crisis in Flint is a political crime of which both big business parties, from Democratic President Barack Obama down to Republican Governor Rick Snyder and local officials, are complicit.'

It seems that there can be only two responses from official channels:

  • Point the finger at the other guy.
  • Pose as a solution to the problem.

Neither is attractive.

Residents Speak Out Against Flint Water Disaster at Congressional Hearing:

Where the Scrutiny Falls...

'The implications of developments in Flint are vast, creating a profound political crisis for both capitalist political parties. The systematic poisoning of the entire population of a city that was once an industrial powerhouse, has garnered worldwide attention.'

'Not only are the official environmental agencies blameworthy for this disaster, but representatives of both Republican and Democratic Parties are complicit. The hearing in Washington, DC, revealed the utter panic of the two big business parties, faced with mass opposition to their criminal policies.'

Someone got it right. Remember, ignoring the bourgeoisie class austerity agenda won't make it go away.

Crickets?

The Elephant In The Room...

'The massive spending on war preparations is to be paid for through ever more draconian attacks on the living standards, jobs and social conditions of the broad masses of working people. The extent of the diversion of social resources to militarism can be seen in the Pentagon’s proposal to increase its spending on research and development for the production of newer and more deadly weapons to nearly $72 billion. This amount alone exceeds the entire US federal budget for education in 2015, never mind the trillions more that are to be spent in the coming years for new generations of nuclear submarines, bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles.'

And they always say there's no money ...

Crickets everywhere.
