That is exactly my point. At one time someone thought that your ex-mayor was worthy of praise and had the statue erected. Years later you say that no one knows who he is but the fact that you have the statue made you wonder who he is and at least inquired enough to know that it was an ex-mayor. That is the purpose the statues. To honor those that we feel are worthy of remembering. If a member of community doesn't feel a person should be honored then they have the right to raise that question. If enough people in the community agree then the statue can and probably should be removed. It shouldn't be up to people outside the community that get their panties into wad because they don't feel the people inside the community have gotten it right.
Actually people were much more interested in the statue of a family made out of mufflers by an exhaust place because someone stole it. It was eventually found dumped after a manhunt for the culprit began. I know who he is because I have walked past the stupid thing 1,000 times, not because I inquired. If you look up, it has his name on the base.
