FINA votes to restrict transgender swimmers, including Lia Thomas

Swimming's world governing body voted to restrict the participation of transgender athletes in women's events and will look into creating an "open competition" category in a membership vote on Sunday.

FINA members voted 71.5% in favor of a policy that requires transgender swimmers to have completed their transition by age 12 to be able to compete, per the Associated Press. There are 152 national federations with voting rights. The vote applies to all events beginning on Monday. Part of the 24-page policy was a proposal for an "open competition" category.
"I do not want any athlete to be told they cannot compete at the highest level," FINA president Husain Al-Musallam

The decision most immediately impacts Penn swimmer Lia Thomas, who became the first transgender NCAA champion in Division I history when she won the women's 500-yard freestyle in March. Thomas competed on the Penn men's team before transitioning and competing as a woman for the first time in 2021-22.

well they got it almost right.

some sort of "open" category is fine but mutilating yourself regardless of age should disqualify you.

An excellent decision..and an important first step for other sports to follow....

Indeed, Top...indeed but I doubt that they will.
I honestly think track and field will soon 'follow...we shall see... But this recent decision for swimmers was absolutely the right one...

I hope they eventually decide to correct the records.....High schools should do the same...although the real winners know who they are.

Indeed.

Every record that Thomas holds should be removed and the top female swimmer should be recognized.

Every scholarship that a male has for competing against a female should be removed and given to the female.

A travesty is being corrected...finally.

Actually, it's FINA who is interested in correcting a travesty.

Why would someone hate women enough to allow males to compete against them?

https://www.wfla.com/news/gov-desantis-declares-sarasota-swimmer-champ-over-transgender-athlete/ Eventually all will be corrected... But as I mentioned in every instance we all know who the real winner is... And for the girls who didn't get to compete because their spot was taken away... They were properly recognized by their coaches and teams and parents... And now that's not going to happen again

Why white lib females think that male is a hero, I have no idea. :palm:
They don't even know who he is... They're just reacting.... You can bet that if it was one of their granddaughters who lost a spot in a state meet or lost a race to a man after years of very hard work their "reaction" would be Very much different...

No, it wouldn’t be, but you just keep on believing everyone is as small minded as yourself.

So, you approve of men competing against women in sports. Winning awards and college scholarship that rightfully belong to women.

How small minded you are.

Apparently so...no idea why anyone would believe that acceptable, though...Perhaps we'll find out...
