Trump leaning toward ground invasion, convinced Iran will then capitulate

Even as Donald Trump pushes for talks to end the war against Iran, the US has ordered thousands of troops to the region, fueling fears that the president is gearing up for exactly the sort of risky ground invasion that he once campaigned against.

An official from one of the countries mediating between the US and Iran tells The Times of Israel that US President Donald Trump appears to be leaning toward ordering a US ground operation against Iran, with Washington convinced Tehran will buckle under such military pressure.

The official intimately familiar with the mediation efforts says the US privately recognizes that Iran is not likely to agree to the concessions presented in Washington’s 15-point plan and has dispatched thousands of troops to the region in order to capture Tehran’s Kharg Island on Trump’s orders.

A second official from a mediating country warns that while the US may be able to capture the island, holding onto it for an extended period of time will require many more soldiers and an extended period of fighting — far beyond the four-to-six week window that Washington has told the public that the war would last. While Saturday will be the four-week mark, the US still claims to be well ahead of schedule.

I really hope not, this is insanity, but he does tend to double down when he is in trouble.

Pigshit is a total fucking idiot, and he was legitimately elected in two of three runs
(and the psychotic troglodyte thinks it was three of three).

What does that say about us?

Does this nation exist primarily to maintain military-industrial complex profits?

I admittedly think that our constitution probably needs a page one re-write,
but at least it doesn't seem to have any requirements for perpetual wars.
Our electorate is what seems to support that, polls notwithstanding.

I figured that Trump and his MAGA minions were always Neocons, never stopped being Neocons, and they were just lying their flabby asses off about supposedly being flower-waving 🌻 peaceniks ☮️

This is insanity. It would take a much bigger deployment to invade Iran, at least the mainland. trump could take Kharg Island with a smaller number of troops (though it would involve a dangerous running of the Strait of Hormuz). After taking the island, the American troops would be wide open for bombardment, and would take heavy casualties.

Oh yeah, your dipshit ass is hella privy to what Trump is planning, huh?
So why is it you have gotten everything 100% wrong thus far?
:rolleyes2:
Iranians are already fighting. The U.S. is trying to hold Peshmerga back until the time is right.
All your dumb ass knows is "Orange Man Bad", and sometimes Orange Man is not bad. Dumbass!
Your hubris irks me. I never did cotton to dumb douchebags.

It will be another Afghanistan with far more American casualties because Iran has a million man army and is better prepared for an invasion.

He also thought killing the leadership would lead to a popular revolt and the collapse of the Iranian theocracy.

We were winning in Afghanistan and would have if GW hadn't left the job half finished to invade Iraq.

Iran will be more like Vietnam or Iraq than Afghanistan. Before the Soviet invasion, Afghanistan was very westernized. The Soviets destroyed that by destroying the cities and infrastructure leaving only the fanatics in the mountains in charge.

I think Trump would chicken out of a full blown, large scale ground invasion. What do you think?
I'm not so sure about chicken out since he has no skin in the game and is only looking at profits, but Congress may stop him.

And he thought he and America would be celebrated for it.

Trump has fallen for each and every NeoCon myth they retell over and over for why the US should be in forever wars in the US.

The MAGAts keep cheering their King on to exercise more power, but their numbers are shrinking as shown by Trump's falling poll numbers.

His instinct is not to do it. I actually think he is NOT for wars and especially ongoing, long ones.

Problem is Trump is dumb and can be easily swayed by people who have access to him and Lindsey Graham Marco Rubio and the NeoCon wing countered his 'lack of desire to be in a war', with what is an irresistable image to Trump which is 'being seen as the Hero of the Middle East, remaking it in a peaceful Trumpian image that would be his legacy'.

Trump is thirst for a big legacy win that is not a made up trophy by FIFA. A REAL WIN. And the NeoCons are countering his natural dislike of wars by waving out what they say would be the 'biggest win in the history of modern civilization'. Trump is just dumb enough to fall for it and give the NeoCons what they really want which is to replace the ColdWar with another forever war. They have been desperate to recreate that and the profits if drives for the Military COmplex.
