Federal Judge Allows Activists to Stake Out Ballot Boxes in Arizona

A federal judge on Friday declined to ban an activist group from gathering near ballot boxes in Arizona, arguing that the members’ actions did not appear to constitute a “true threat” or intimidation and that their right to assemble in public spaces is constitutionally protected.

In his 14-page ruling, Judge Michael T. Liburdi found that while “many voters are legitimately alarmed by the observers filming” at ballot boxes in Maricopa County, there was no proof that the group, Clean Elections USA, had encouraged acts of violence or posted personal or identifying information online.

“While this case certainly presents serious questions,” Judge Liburdi wrote, “the court cannot craft an injunction without violating the First Amendment.”

Bad decision. They are clearly there to cause trouble.

all they want to do is identify ballot harvesters breaking the law.......a person casting one vote has no reason to be concerned.......

The presence of masked men ridiculously dressed for combat, carrying AR-15’s, waiting near a drop box may not seem ridiculous to people arriving to vote. It may well give them second thoughts of going through with it. I wonder if the judge would have the same generous opinion of the First Amendment if he came upon similar “observers” but with the addition of BLM armbands gathered by the steps of his courthouse.

historically they already have.....none of you objected when it happened.......so we have learned to adapt......and adopt.....

In 1967, California Governor Reagan signed the Mulford Act, that made public carrying of firearms without a permit, illegal. It was due to Black Panthers carrying weapons to “copwatch”. His comments?

"no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons" and that guns were a "ridiculous way to solve problems that have to be solved among people of good will."

Therein lies the problem. Good will. The armed people in this case, while legally allowed to do so, are attempting nothing more than intimidation of those who tend to vote Democratic in early and drop-boxed votes.

Are armed people allowed to patrol election lines on Nov. 9? Some places don’t even allow water to be provided.

If they are not registered with the Secretary of State they are hoodlums.

Wrong. In Arizona they have the freedom of speech and association to watch the box if that's what they want to do. So long as they don't interfere with or otherwise act aggressively towards those dropping off a ballot, they are absolutely free to film, watch, whatever, people in public doing something in public.

What YOU hate is, being the radical Leftist you are, that they are doing something YOU don't like or agree with. That's normal for the Left, Rights for me but not for thee. Free speech for the Left is defined as speech they agree with. Otherwise, the Left will object and try to shut that speech down.

The above--watching ballot drop boxes peacefully--is an example of the Left wanting to shut other people's freedoms down.

Armed people with guns and bullet proof vests is not free speech.

In Arizona, those are legal in public...

In Arizona if you want to protest in body armor and carry guns you can, be it Left or Right. You are free to do so peacefully here.

Arizona is fucked up. But AZ already sent complaints to the Department of Justice for investigation of violating federal voting rights.
