For all of those delusional ' the free market can do a better job than the govt.' aficionados, this is a reality check.

So you thought Fed Ex/Ups could do a better job than the USPS?

Neither of these companies are being forced by the govt. (as the USPS is) to prefund retiree medical for the next 75 years, and they're still cutting jobs.

The reason we don't want either of them delivering the mail, is because if it isn't profitable, then they aren't interested.

The reason is obvious - not enough tax cuts for the rich....too much government regulation.

USPS has no air fleet. It's cheaper to use Fed Ex.

From your link:

On August 2, 2006, the U.S. Postal Service signed a new 7-year agreement with FedEx. FedEx transports time sensitive mail for the Postal Service, including Express Mail®, Priority Mail®, and First-Class Mail® (FCM).

Do you think it's cheaper to manage an air fleet?

Obviously the Postal Service must be eliminated and all mail and parcel delivery privatized. With tax cuts.

so your OP rant about the free market is nothing but meadowmuffins....thanks
Says who? FED Ex/UPS are cutting jobs, because people are using cheaper, slower methods to ship/receive packages.

Nobody can compete with FED EX/UPS for guaranteed next day delivery, but it costs 4 times as much.

Your argument is that they can deliver all the loss leader pieces of mail that the USPS does, and do it as well?

so you can't explain your own rant.

tff
What's to explain? The 'free market' argument is that we should do away with the USPS, and allow FED EX/UPS to deliver the mail.

Nobody delivers mail as efficiently as the USPS. If not for Bush's legislation aimed at killing the USPS, they'd be fine.

As you can see, FED EX/UPS are having their own issues with money.

Or, more specifically, delivering a high ROI for investors.

So they'll cut jobs, lower the quality of their product, and continue to chase profits.

The free market at work.

no wonder you refuse to answer my question about the free market and job losses. you can't because it throws your wild theory out the window.

the free market in fact works. without the free market there would be no fedex. you don't understand what the free market stands for.

The free market works just fine. It just isn't applicable to mail delivery.

The govt. oversees the USPS. No tax dollars go to the Post Office.

Typically, the govt. performs the tasks that don't garner profit. Mail delivery is a service.

Which is why the free market doesn't belong in the mail business.

Despite what you may claim.

what? for starters tax dollars do go the post office. and the free market doesn't belong....you're confusing the concept of free market with an actual company. there are certain areas the government does a better job than private sector in giving us goods or service.....utilities for one. the USPS could be more efficient. it just needs to stop living under the pre internet, pre fed ex world.

DUH! That's what happens with a private company. They may even go bankrupt. But I'll bet they won't be getting a bail out check from obama...especially in the mail.
They won't go bankrupt. They'll just keep cutting services, in order to keep ROI high for investors.

Which is why they can't replace the USPS

Ever.

Incorrect. The post office needs Congress to end the Bush era legislation aimed at killing the USPS.

The only tax dollars that go to the post office, fund overseas mail for the troops, and free mail delivery services for the blind.

The post office was fine until Bush's 'Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act'.
