There is no such thing as a centrist. This is not about left vs right, and hasn't been for 30 years. It's about top vs bottom, consolidation of wealth and power into the hands of the few vs the democratic (small d) process, which depends on the dilution of power into the hands of the voters. Plutocracy and corporate oligarchy vs democracy. The two positions are diametrically opposed and mutually exclusive. There is no compromise, centrist position between the two, as there is no acceptable level of plutocratic rule just as there is no acceptable level of theocratic rule, because as soon as either group gets a concession, they are off to bully their way to the next concession. Neither negotiates in good faith, and Jefferson, Madison, and Franklin knew they had to be fought tooth and nail in perpetuity, lest they take over the founders' democratic experiment. When the Constitutional Convention wrapped up their groundbreaking work, it is said that a woman asked Franklin what kind of government they were giving us, to which Franklin replied, "A republic, madam, if you can keep it." Both Jefferson and Madison presciently warned about the use of never ending war as a pretext for destroying the republic, and Franklin famously said something that the citizens of this country have apparently forgotten: "Those who give up essential liberties to gain a little temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security."
Can I get an AMEN?
