FCC chair puts ‘The View’ under the spotlight after Kimmel pressure

Yesterday's episode of the View did not any mention Jimmy Kimmel's suspension, I wonder if they were muzzled by ABC?!!

If the View stops criticizing Trump, then they need to end the show?!! That's why I watch it, we are in serious trouble if the network stations stop
criticizing/mocking Trump?!!

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr questioned on Thursday whether ABC’s “The View” should be subject to review from the agency, making the daytime talk show Carr’s latest target in his scrutiny of television programs that have been critical of President Donald Trump.

In an appearance on conservative commentator Scott Jenning’s podcast, Carr said he wondered whether “The View” qualified as a “bona fide” news program, a program discussing current events.

If the show did not qualify, Carr said, the program would have to obey the FCC’s equal time rule — which requires broadcast stations to give equal airtime and access to competing political candidates.

“I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether ‘The View,’ and some of these other programs that you have, still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore are exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place,” he said in the interview.

The FCC head has long targeted the ABC daytime program. But his criticism — and a hint that the agency may take action against the show — takes on new relevance after Carr threatened ABC and its local affiliates on Wednesday to act against Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program following his comments about the death of Charlie Kirk.

But his criticism — and a hint that the agency may take action against the show — takes on new relevance after Carr threatened ABC and its local affiliates on Wednesday to act against Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program following his comments about the death of Charlie Kirk.

ABC suspended Kimmel hours later. A spokesperson for “The View” did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Last year, Carr criticized NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for featuring Kamala Harris in an episode days before the 2024 election as an overstep of the FCC’s equal time policy.

“This is a clear and blatant effort to evade the FCC’s Equal Time rule,” he posted to X at the time. NBC ultimately accepted a request from the Trump campaign for equal time due to the appearance.

In the interview, Carr said late-night talk shows — not including “Saturday Night Live” — qualify as bona fide news programs and are not subject to the rule.

“Potentially, I would assume, you could make the argument that ‘The View’ is a bona fide news show, but I’m not so sure about that,” Carr said.

OMG you might as well get rid of your TV if no one criticizes Trump!

I'm surprised liberty-loving MAGA's have no issue w/ what's going on.
No one says they should be prevented from saying what they want the questions should they be free of consequences? How many times have we seen conservative speakers being harassed on campus or having those speaking engagements canceled? You.arent about freedom of speech you're about freedom of consequences

If a network decides to cancel a show, that's freedom. I have no problem w/ cancellations & people getting fired - as long as it's the market deciding.

A lot of affiliates decided they were no longer going to air his show. The network doesn't have to decide anything. Affiliates can decide what they will and what they won't put on the air from the network. The market decided.

And you think it's just a coincidence that the timing was right after the FCC chair talking about it?

It was in response to kimmel flapping his dumbass leftist gums. What Jimmy should have done was focus on entertaining people but he just couldn't do it.

This is a serious question, how long and how much shit do you think people should put up with before they finally say they're sick and tired of it?
