Fox's Mike Tobin Talks To Media Matters:

For the last two weeks, Fox News reporter Mike Tobin has been at the center of his network's coverage of the Wisconsin union demonstrations.

He is also at the center of a controversy over claims -- called into question yesterday after the release of new video -- that he was "assaulted" by protesters.

Tobin spoke with Media Matters at length on Monday about the experience, which has included demonstrators repeatedly chanting "Fox News Lies" and waving signs referencing the network's inaccurate reporting.

On Sunday, Tobin claimed during a live report that he had just been "hit" by one of the protesters.

Tobin wasn't onscreen at the time, and a Fox anchor later said that the network's cameras had been blocked by protesters during the alleged incident.

Nonetheless, the Fox Nation website immediately claimed that Tobin had been "assaulted by demonstrator during live shot."

Tobin disagreed
.

"I was just hit in the arm a couple of times," he said on Fox Sunday night. "To call it assault or anything like that is a bit of an exaggeration."

On Twitter, Tobin said that he "declined to press charges over a couple little punches in the arm" because doing so would create a "distraction."

That didn't stop Fox. On Monday, Fox anchor Megyn Kelly asked Tobin about the "assault."

When Tobin disputed Kelly's characterization, she rephrased: "It is an unwanted touching. Actually, it's a battery, technically, under the law."

"Yeah, technically, but I got punched in the arm," Tobin responded. "It didn't even leave a bruise. So, I don't want to make too big a deal about it."

In an interview with Media Matters later Monday, Tobin sought to downplay the incident, which he continued to describe as a "punch."

"It was a punch. A punch is a punch, but it was just a punch in my arm.
I grew up with three older brothers, it's not my first time being punched. I don't want to overdramatize it for the sake of TV or anything like that."

Then came the video.

On Tuesday morning, what appears to be footage of the alleged incident recorded by someone in the crowd was posted at LiveLeak.com.

Mediaite, which had trumpeted Tobin's initial allegations, reported that the new video "certainly seems to counter the initial claim that Tobin had been hit."

And Raw Story reported that "someone merely touched [Tobin's] shoulder, as evidenced in the video. ... The incident he claimed was a 'punch' could instead be described as a pat, at most."

After the video emerged, Media Matters once again contacted Tobin for comment. This time, he didn't respond.

Interesting stuff...so where is the video of alleged incident?
How do we know its the incident in question ?

Assuming these are the facts.....

What is the lie again ?
Describing it as "assault" then changing it to "battery"....
Is that the lie?

I found the video on "RawStory" and I hear Tobin say , "That guy just hit me, just to let you know"....but I can't make out anything because of the crowd and the signs...
The video is useless as visual proof of anything, it neither confirms nor disproves the allegations or his statement of being hit....
The guy singled out by RawStory leaves the scene pretty fast before Tobin even says "that guy just hit me"....you have to go back to real time in the beginning to see....

So as usual, its much ado about nothing....didn't mediamatters just pull this crap about something else a few days ago ????
Could win the Emmy for special effects for Raw Story though....

Now I remember...it was Zappa and MM again claiming lies because Fox reported the GallopPoll numbers wrong...they got them ass backwards and that was deemed a LIE ....lame again....

Watch the link posted in post #3.

In it you can clearly see the guy in the Santa hat PAT Tobin on the shouldeer twice as the reporter claims "that guy hit me".

Later in the clip...around the 3:00 minute mark, they go super slo-mo and jog the video back and forth repeatedly, and it is CLEAR the liar wasn't hit...he was simply trying to distort coverage of the peaceful crowds protesting in Madison.

Zappa, if you don't like Faux News.....why do even bother to watch them or pay attention to their propaganda?

Yeah...I watched....lame attempt by mediamatters....much ado about nothing, as usual....
As a matter of fact...when he says, "that guy just hit me"...the guy in the Santa hat is already moved far away behind him and its not really clear if Tobin even means that is the person he is refering to....he turns his head to the left as hes talking to his camera man, but could be refering to someone else altogether.
A lefty bullshit smear job in the making, and Tobin isn't making a big deal out of it ....
Looks more like "verbal assault" than physical....

Faux wants nothing more than to show violence in Wis. Even if it means lying, half truths and sensationalism.

Maybe Faux had better realize that people are getting wise to their brand of 'news'.

sensationalism |senˈsā sh ənlˌizəm|
noun
1 (esp. in journalism) the use of exciting or shocking stories or language at the expense of accuracy, in order to provoke public interest or excitement : media sensationalism.

Zappa, if you don't like Faux News.....why do even bother to watch them or pay attention to their propaganda?

Because I can??

Because poking holes in their whole "fair & balanced" nonsense is fun?

Because Faux likes to crow about how corrupt the MSM is...and giving them a dose of their own medicine highlights the stupidity of Faux Kool-aid drinkers like DY and ID.

There's three to choose from...you pick one.

So you agree Faux's Megan Kelly was being your standard partisan lying hack when she claimed he'd been the victim of "battery"?

as usual, zappas zealotry has caused him to be the dishonest party, not fox news.

1. fox merely reported what they had been told by the person who said he was punched.

2. that video does not in any way proof whether he was or was not punched. there are too many protest signs blocking it.

3. criminal assault and batter are often interchanged. its a common mistake, not a lie. and the fox news anchor corrected the mistake. but zappa would have you believe they lied.

was fox news zealous in reporting the incident without further checking its credibility. yes. but this happens all the time with our must have news now society. look how many stations reported giffords dead due to what they had been told. zappa would have you believe all those stations lied.

I figure it like this Zap....if I ignore them, they'll go away....and if enough people do that...it will happen. :)

Yeah I guess that will be prudent when their rating fall to let's say the numbers of CNN, MSNBC, or See-BS, eh Hoopy?

Doesn't it just kill y'all when they still keep racking it up while you guys are crying in your Captain Crunch?

That's why I keep an eye on Faux...so you don't have to...LOL

True, if enough people ignore them they might go away...but given the number of dull-normal sheep that hang on O'Really's and Beek's every word, I'm not so sure.
