Fatal shooting at Denver screening of The Dark Knight Rises

You are one sick bastard. Dont reply please.

Then allow me to reply. You call him a sick bastard because he likes to shoot and to hunt? Talk about being a judgemental asshole prone to knee-jerk reactions. Leaning has not committed a crime. He has not hurt anyone. He has a hobby. That you call him a "sick bastard" is a sign of your own issues, not his.

Well the obvious answer to that is the ammo should only be delivered to a licenced shooting range and not to a private address. The even more obvious answer is that those kind of weapons were banned by Clinton in the '90s and shouild never have been allowed to become legal again.

The funny thing about the Clinton ban is that "assault rifles" were used in less than 1% of gun related crimes prior to the ban. During the ban they were used in about the same percentage of gun related crimes.

Also, the ban did not remove anything. It stopped them from being sold new. But the ones already here were still here and being resold.

I have a lot of time for him myself, he's all right. As to why he needs so many guns is a total mystery to me but I've never been able to understand the US males' fixation with guns anyway. I can understand hunting and self protection but having enough weapons for a private army is just mind boggling.

It would have stopped that crazy bastard Holmes though, he killed 12 but that was only because the magazine jammed. He could have culled the entire cinema with the weaponry he had at his disposal.

Guns are like tools. Some have one purpose and some have another. You can't hunt squirrels with a 30-06, you don't remove vermin with a .338, and you don't hunt deer with a .17 caliber. It depends on what you like to do and what you like to collect.

I have a few guns that I do not shoot, but keep as collectibles. I then have a dozen or so that I shoot or hunt with.

No it would not have stopped Holmes. First of all, any guns labelled "assault rifles" that were already out there were not confiscated. They commanded higher prices, but that is all. Second, high capacity magazines were still out there too, just at a higher price.

And third, as has been pointed out, if he had no guns at all he would have used the bombs he had at his apartment. Which would have resulted in a higher death toll.

China also knows that the moment it tried to impose its will, all the serious money would disappear overnight.

so does that make china a weaker government than the US, or a stronger one? why is it that in the anti gunners minds, the US government is this unbeatable and domineering force that the citizens have no chance of defeating, yet China would never oppress it's citizens because they are so smart?

Just to re-inforce my contention that part of the fault for what happened at the cinema lies in the fact that Americans have become more latently violent over the last few years let me point you to my last post which was in response to j-mac (is he new or is he a reincarnation of one of the usual belligerent teenagers?) The United Nation stats listed HK as having had 5 manslaughters in the year in question. Our dear friend j-mac, cannot get it through his thick skull that there is nothing to say that firearms were used in any of the cases. He judges everything by his own back yard. He clearly is so used to violence, on the streets, in cinemas, in schools, in comic books, in his own head that he cannot conceive of a time or place that does not have an American level of violence.

Please back up the bolded with evidence of such. As studies have shown the US has become less violent over the past 20 years.

I have been looking for further statistical evidence but am unable to find anything about gun crime in HK. However in the gun ownership statistics, we have no mention at all in the top 30 countries. The US is listed top with a gun ownership of 88.8 guns per 100 citizens. Now MY logic suggests that each gun owner has purchased his weapon for one of two reasons. 1. He wishes to cause violence or commit a crime, or 2. he is frightened that someone that he might have some contact with is intent on harming him. (excluding hunters of wild animals).

LMAO... I love your exclusion... which is the primary reason for gun ownership being so high in the US. Those that buy handguns to go to the range or use them for work etc... then you do have those that want something on hand as protection for their family (not because they are living in fear, it is called precaution)

and he could have simply brought some of the home made bombs he made and done far worse.
