FactChecking Palin

There is still some dispute as to whether Sarah Palin also attended the AIP’s 1994 convention, held in Wasilla. Clark and another AIP official told ABC News’ Jake Tapper that both Palins were there. Palin was elected mayor of Wasilla two years later. The McCain campaign says Sarah Palin went to the 2000 AIP convention, also held in Wasilla, “as a courtesy since she was mayor.” As governor, Palin sent a video message to the 2008 convention, which is available on YouTube, and the AIP says she attended in 2006 when she was campaigning.
from your factcheck

She looks pretty involved to me?

The leader thought she was a member for christ sake.

Now if she was ever a member on paper we may never really know the truth because paper trails can be changed.

So her attending conventions in her home town somehow makes her 'pretty involved'?????

Seriously desh, you are really reaching now. Just admit you were wrong. She is not, nor was she ever a member of the AIP.

And look at this Desh even the NY Times is saying they were wrong.

Alaska Party Official Says Palin Was Not a Member
By The New York Times
The chairwoman of an Alaskan political party that advocates a vote on the state’s secession from the union said Tuesday that she had been mistaken when she said Gov. Sarah Palin was a member of the group.

A front-page story in The New York Times on Tuesday and articles in other news media reported that Ms. Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for two years in the 1990’s.

The information in the Times article was based on a statement issued Monday night by Lynette Clark, the party’s chairwoman, who said that Ms. Palin joined the party in 1994 and in 1996 changed her registration to Republican.

On Tuesday night, Ms. Clark said that her initial statement was incorrect and had been based on erroneous information provided by another member of the party whom she declined to identify. The McCain campaign also disputed the Times report, saying that Ms. Palin had been registered consistently as a Republican.

After checking the party’s archives, Ms. Clark said that she could find no documentation that Governor Palin had been a member of the party. She said Ms. Palin attended the party’s 1994 and 2006 conventions and provided a video-taped address as governor to the 2008 convention.

Ms. Clark said that Ms. Palin’s husband, Todd, was a former member of the party.

The head of the Sierra Club spoke at the 2004 LP Convention. Does not make him a member or put him in agreement with any LP positions.

LMAO... who gives a shit if she was there????? It was a convention in her HOME TOWN.

Do you think everyone that attended the DNC in Denver was a Democrat or a supporter of Dems?

I saw code pink women at the RNC... they MUST support the Reps then.

I've attended Democratic Party meetings before, and even spoke at one. Does that make me a Democrat?

The parties chairwoman and the party leader thought she was a member.

She attended meetings and her husband was a long time member.

She has used her husband as an advisor in such a mannerthat she is denying public access to emails on this basis.

If Mrs. Obama was a member of the black panthers and Mr. Obama attended meetings and high ranking members thought he was a member would it be an issue?

If somebody saw me there (many did, considering I spoke to them) and told some DNC guy that I was a member because they saw me, then he later erroneously stated that I was a member would that make me a Democrat?

the truth has a liberal bias!!!

ROFLMAO....

This is more than just speaking to them once.

So she went a few times, so what? What you are basically arguing is that politicians should ignore all groups that are not part of the mainstream (i.e. approved by the corporate media). It's no different than HUAC attacking somebody as a communist because they attended one meeting or had some connection to a party member.

There is nothing of merit or substance in this AIP angle. You will drown out substantive criticism of Palin with this nonsense.

You obviously didn't even read the article I gave you.

Look at that Desh the chairwoman you are quoting said she was wrong. Funny you can't do the same.

Hmm guys in suits driving black SUV's showed up huh ?

Yes, it is silly in that same way but moreso. Desh's argument is a bit worse. Obama was clearly a member of that church and did more than show up at a couple functions for campaign related purposes. That does imply at least some general agreement or toleration of the church.

I guess not, so what? I mean the claim that this is a terrorist group is ridiculous as well.

It's great to see the Democrats using fear mongering tactics over "terrorism" to chill speech.

Wow, this just grows a life of its own. I'm with you above. I went to a church growing up for 10 years. I was a member of that church.

I went to several Democratic hosted functions in San Francisco to see Democrats speak. I am not a Democrat nor does that make me a Democrat because I attended those functions.

RStringfield, he's an idiot. This discussion has absolutely nothing to do with her husband. It's about Sarah Palin and Desh's claim that Sarah Palin is a member of AIP which it has been shown she is not yet Desh refuses to admit it.
