FAA Report on D.C. Plane Crash Is Out—and It’s an Indictment of Trump

@TOP craves attention again. :laugh:

A "teacher" should be able to Google that. I was tempted to reply 1) long training period away from home in Oklahoma City, 2) great responsibility for the pay, 3) difficult hours (rotating shifts), 4) stress. But you go with what Newsmax tells you, there's a good grrl. lol

A preliminary report on Wednesday night’s plane and helicopter collision near Washington, D.C. contradicts Donald Trump’s favorite DEI scapegoat.

An internal report from the Federal Aviation Administration found that in reality, the tower’s staffing at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to The New York Times. There was only one air traffic controller to handle both helicopters and planes in the airport’s vicinity, a job usually assigned to two people.

Having to handle both types of air traffic can be complicated, the Times report states, because air traffic controllers can use different radio frequencies for helicopter and airplane pilots. In such cases, while the controller is communicating with pilots of both kinds of aircraft, the pilots may not be able to talk to one another.

Staffing levels at the airport’s control tower have been below adequate levels for years, like many of the U.S.’s other airports. DCA’s tower only had 19 fully certified controllers as of September 2023, according to congressional reports. This is well below the FAA and air traffic controller union’s preferred number of 30, and is due to employee turnover and budget cuts, according to the Times.

As a result, many air controllers at the airport work up to 10 hours a day and six days a week. Those levels probably have not been helped by Donald Trump’s federal hiring freeze, his gutting of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, and the FAA chief’s resignation at Elon Musk’s behest. As much as Trump and the right might try to blame DEI or something else ludicrous, perhaps they should look in the mirror.

Union propaganda is meaningless.

Former American Airlines captain ‘disgusted’ by Trump crash remarks

It should not be a disgusting remark coming from a disgusting individual like Trump?!!

A retired American Airlines flight captain said he is “disgusted” by President Trump’s recent criticism of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices in the wake of the deadly collision outside Reagan National Airport earlier this week.

“Sorry, but I was disgusted by that entire press conference and the statements that were made for people that I depended upon throughout my career,” Les Abend said Friday during an appearance on CNN, referencing Trump’s remarks from the White House briefing room a day earlier.

“The qualifications that are required for a controller are stringent. And it’s a lot of work,” he told CNN’s Kasie Hunt. “It’s, at least five years before somebody can actually be solo, for instance, at a particular facility, and each facility has its own difficulty level.”

The day after the crash between an American Airlines flight en route from Kansas and a military helicopter — which killed all 67 people on board both aircraft — Trump blamed DEI hiring practices, arguing they jeopardized the safety and weakened the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

He doubled down on his claim that the incident, one of the deadliest air collisions in the U.S. in the last 20 years, was caused by DEI practices.

“You have to go by psychological quality, and psychological quality is a very important element of it,” Trump said Thursday. “These are various, very powerful tests that we put to use. And they were terminated by Biden. And Biden went by a standard that seeks the exact opposite. So we don’t know.”

Abend claimed Friday that just like for air traffic controllers, applicants have to meet certain standards to become a licensed pilot.

“Same thing for pilots. There’s a specific standard for hiring pilots, whether they’re Black, white, purple, Brown, it doesn’t make any difference,” he said. “Those standards have to be met, and nobody’s going to get hired, that doesn’t meet those particular standards.”

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have either questioned or publicly criticized Trump’s remarks about diversity programs after the deadly crash.

Trump has pushed the FAA to end DEI hiring practices, a part of a wider push to eliminate the initiative across the federal government. He appointed Chris Rocheleau, an agency veteran, to be the acting administrator until an official nominee is confirmed by the upper chamber.

Trump never blamed the crash on DEI.

Oh, in that case never mind. He sure fixed the problem, didn't he? Look, ATC is definitely part of the problem, and yes, he was addressing it. But it's only PART of the problem. The entire air transportation system in the U.S. is the reason I have not flown since 2007, and probably never will again.

But fear not! I have ideas! And when I have ideas on governance, I write to the particular government guy in charge (the only answer I ever got was from Rick Scott, but that doesn't bother me).
I have no problem flying. I don't need ATC to fly. When I use ATC, I cross check to make sure their directives make sense. Most every pilot does the same.

The PILOT is in command of the aircraft and is the final authority of the operation of that aircraft...NOT anyone on the ground!

Produce the video, or even a quote published of President Trump saying "the crash occurred only because black and brown people have jobs". You can't, because it never happened. You are a lying leftist.

Let's see the video.

Produce the video.
Ah, the Trumptard attempt at gaslighting. Sad thing - you really believe it's working. tsk, tsk.

I'd tell you the truth will set you free, but for Trump apologists - they're hopelessly locked in bubble.
