Explosion reported at Utah State University ahead of a TPUSA event tonight, after reports of an evacuation due to a bomb threat

Worth noting, "suspicious package" was NOT a bomb, and did not explode. The police were unsure what it was, so blew it up out of an "abundance of cation."

In other words, some poor student forgot his backpack, and the local police blew it up.
It wasn't a backpack, Wally. If a student left it, they are going to find him. The package contained an explosive, but no fusing device that would've
worked. In other words, an incompetently made bomb.

So the police rigged it with a fuse and detonated it in a safe location.

Not what the police said... More importantly, if it were an explosive, blowing it up would have caused it to blow up... Which it did not.

It is what the police said, Wally.
And it did blow up.
The bomb the police planted blew up. It did not cause the "suspicious package" to blow up, because it was not a bomb. Someone left a backpack behind for some reason. People forget backpacks. It happens. When the police are worried, they blow it up. If it does not add explosive to the explosion, like this time, the police know it was just a normal mistake.
