EVs are literally pieces of crap, especially after the first fender bender!

EV's it is now fairly clear are just not going to work. Maybe hydrogen will but gas powered are now so efficient that switching out to anything else makes little sense.

Not that this will stop our overlords from demanding the change.

MAGA wets panties:

Tesla is now a blue-chip stock. Moody’s Investors Serviceassigned a ‘Baa3’ long-term issuer rating on Monday to the electric vehicle and clean energy company. The bond ratings agency also withdrew the company's ‘Ba1’ corporate family rating.

"The rating action reflects expectation that Tesla will remain one of the foremost manufacturers of battery electric vehicles with an expanding global presence and very high profitability," Moody's said in a statement.

A large, valuable company that is well-established is considered blue-chip. Other blue-chip stocks include American Express, Boeing and Nike.

EV batteries lack reparability leading some insurers to junk whole cars after even minor collisions

Unless reparability in EV batteries is addressed and fixed, the pile-ups will increase — and so too, will premiums, expert says

A scratched or slightly damaged electric battery might be enough for some insurers to write off entire cars, as for many electric vehicles there is no way to repair battery packs after collisions.

As a result, the consumer — who likely acquired an electric vehicle wanting to reduce monthly costs — faces higher premiums and some countries are starting to see electric vehicle batteries piling up in scrapyards, according to Reuters.

Matthew Avery, research director at automotive risk intelligence company Thatcham Research, said the goal of electric vehicles was sustainability, but a lack of reparability is creating a whole new problem.

"We're buying electric cars for sustainability reasons," Avery said, Reuters reported. "But an EV isn't very sustainable if you've got to throw the battery away after a minor collision."

EV batteries going into scrapyards is going to be good recipe for scrapyard fires.

ALL moderncars are a piece of crap after a collision today, the means of propulsion being irrelevant.

They don't have full frames anymore. They're all throwaway unibodies.
They're designed to crush and absorb the blow rather than jolt the occupants.

Gasoline cars are quite repairable after minor collisions. I suggest you visit a local bodyshop to see just what they can do.

Can't do it with EVs though. It doesn't take much of a collision to damage the battery pack, since the batteries have so much mass. They don't just stop with the rest of the car.

One-third of Americans would consider EV purchase -Reuters/Ipsos poll

I'm one of them, I just told a friend who purchased a gasoline powered car, that I would buy an EV now if the infrastructure for them were in place and higher range and a short charging time?!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Just over one-third of Americans would consider buying an electric vehicle for their next model, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The seven-day poll completed on Monday found 34% of all respondents would consider an EV, while 31% said no.
Among Democrats 50% said they would consider an EV, while 26% of Republicans and 27% of independents said they would consider.

There are now more than 80 EV models for sale in the United States. EVs represented nearly 6% of all U.S. sales in 2022, with EV sales up by more than 60% last year.

President Joe Biden wants 50% of all new vehicles sold in 2030 to be EV or plug-in hybrid models. Tesla Inc is the leading EV maker in the U.S., but other top-selling models include Ford Motor Co's Mustang Mach-E SUV, General Motors Co's Chevrolet Bolt and Hyundai Motor's Ioniq 5.

The poll found 56% of respondents would be willing to pay no more than $49,999 for an EV. In August, the Biden administration won a significant expansion of $7,500 electric vehicle tax credits and other battery and EV manufacturing incentives to shift the industry toward electric models but EVs are still often significantly above $50,000.

The poll also found that 35% wanted an EV that offered 500 or more miles of electric driving range per full charge, a distance few EVs offer today. Another 37% wanted a minimum of 300 miles.

The world's top automakers are spending hundreds of billions of dollars to develop EVs, along with the batteries and raw materials to support that production as the Biden administration moves to adopt new regulations to speed the transition away from gasoline-powered vehicles.

The same old special pleading bullshit.

Less than 1% of the cars on the road are EVs.

Government mandates and subsidies are fascism and communism. It won't work.

EVs require too long to charge, use about twice the energy of an equivalent gasoline car to travel the same distance, are easily damaged beyond repair, require large amounts of non-renewable lithium, are heavy, which reduces their payload capacity, require specialty shops to work on them making maintenance expensive, have high insurance rates (due to the easy damage beyond repair), are expensive, and do not 'save the planet' or even reduce emissions.

It doesn't matter what Joe Biden wants. He has no legal authority to ban or limit any car.

Toyota, the world's largest automaker, is getting out of EVs. They already announced it.
