Even Democrats say Biden’s pause on LNG is like ‘throwing a match in a bale of hay’

A robust chorus of congressional Democrats, business leaders, and Republicans, as well as international allies, are calling on President Joe Biden to undo the pause he placed on liquefied natural gas exports. Almost in unison, they say his decision actually undermines his climate agenda, jeopardizes national security, empowers Russia and Iran, and creates a schism with allies who depend on this clean energy from the U.S. to fuel their countries.

Longtime Ohio Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, who retired last year, admitted in a post on X that the halt was “a major political issue that the D’s have just put themselves squarely on the wrong side” and would hurt his party’s ability to win seats in the Great Lakes Midwest.

He wasn’t the only Democrat complaining. Pennsylvania Sens. John Fetterman and Bob Casey Jr., the latter of whom is up for reelection this year, said in a joint statement to the Washington Examiner that as senators’ who represent the second largest natural gas-producing state, they were going to push Biden to undo his decision.

“This industry has created good-paying energy jobs in towns and communities across the Commonwealth and has played a critical role in promoting U.S. energy independence,” the statement said. They said the immediate impact on Pennsylvania remains to be seen, but they have deep concerns about the long-term impact this pause will have on the thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry.

On Jan. 26, the Biden administration announced it was halting approval of new licenses to export United States LNG so it can continue studying how those shipments supposedly contribute to climate change.

The decision was pegged immediately as a gesture to shore up young people and (Tic Tok) climate activists for the November election, especially when Biden admitted his decision in his statement was based on “heeding the calls of young people and frontline communities who are using their voices to demand action from those with the power to act.” He charged that “MAGA Republicans … willfully deny the urgency of the climate crisis.”....

This is another of Biden's retarded policies.

1. It hurts the climate by pushing our allies to Russian gas which is produced by dirtier means.
2. Or even worse it pushes our allies to use coal for energy
3. It is bad for security because it gives Russia power over our allies
4. It makes our allies distrust us.
5. It hurts tens of thousands of US jobs
5. It hurts our trade imbalance

Do you support Biden's LNG ban/pause?

Yes, I don't see any harm in a temporary pause in issuing permits for LNG terminals that are years away from becoming a reality anyway.

Funny how right-wingers are pissing their panties and calling this a "win for Russia" while at the same time withholding aid to Ukraine.

The level of hypocrisy on the right continues to set new records constantly.

Typical, a robust chorus of congressional Democrats, robust being four Democrats, two of them long retired from Congress, throw in three “business leaders” and you have a breaking headline in such as the “Examiner,” you know there is a reason they give away free the Examiner in DC

That's how it works. It takes many years. That is not a logical reason to halt it.
