Evangelicals: You Need to Stop Believing In Stupid Things

If I give my heart and soul to Jesus Christ I have the possibility of realizing his plan and promise of eternal life in a new
spiritual dimension that you have ZERO evidence for any denial of. If I'm correct, I have everything to gain and nothing to lose. If I'm wrong I'll never know it nor will you. I lose nothing but a life on a corrupt, sinful, crooked, cursed and corrupt planet steeped in war, murder & tyrannical human governments hell bent on deposing freedom and rejecting justice and a population therein of fools, criminals, hypocrites, cheaters and losers. And your pathetic reasoning for your disbelief and denial is?

And that is your reality and no one cares. But what does that have to do with the video discussion in the OP?

Ha, made me look them up. The first one would be the death of political forums. "Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked."

Some follow them, but few. Most religions have rules that are good guidelines. What if we posted the Wiccan Rede on the courthouse walls?

"These Eight words the Rede fulfill:
"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will""
(Entire thing is at: https://wicca.com/celtic/wicca/rede.htm)

I don't want to see anyone's religious stuff posted on public property.

Yeah, I don't want any religion promoted on public property either, but the Wiccan Rede at least makes sense. I always cringe when I hear people say things like "I'm an Atheist, but the Ten Commandments are good rules for a society." No, they're not. At most, half of them are, and even those have exceptions.

It might be that the person saying that doesn't know much about them other than "thou shalt not kill.". I've also heard atheists, including the one I'm married to, say that they think that the Golden Rule is a good axiom to live by. He also pointed out though that to a lot of people (including many Xtians) it reads: "Do unto others before they do unto you." (sigh)

Totally. Most Atheists, like most Christians, don't know many of the Commandments.

that's not the axiom.

Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes on Faith. “If any earthly institution or custom conflicts with God's will, it is your Christian duty to oppose it. You must never allow the transitory, evanescent demands of man-made institutions to take precedence over the eternal demands of the Almighty God.”

Guess these would have to come down from the library wall? Free public library, btw....

In general most Christians don't really know much of their own holy book, or the history of their faith, and how it has been drawn on and patterned after far older religions. In fact, when you point that out some of them get extremely angry. It's interesting that most Jews don't react that way, even though for thousands of years they believe themselves to be G-d's Chosen People. I guess a long history makes one more pragmatic and less likely to take offense.

It's also that most Jews aren't practicing anymore. They see their religion as being more about culture. I think eventually Christianity is going to be the same way.

A lot of them just think to be a Christian means going to church on Sunday. Church is actually one of the lesser parts in my mind and it's pointless if you don't do more.

I found this particularly interesting...

In a way in many places, that's what it is -- a social club. Some go regularly to spend time with like-minded ppl. Others just call themselves part of the club even though they don't practice any of the rituals, prayers, hymns, chants, etc.

Very true. My parents were very involved in our church when I was a kid. Dad was an usher and committee member; mom was the communion lady and took care of all that involved, plus all the meetings and hosting of fellowship dinners and the like. We often spent most of Sunday at the church. It was eye-opening to a little kid, to say the least, to overhear what some of the adults talked about when they didn't think the kid was listening. All that stuff in Sunday school (and at home) and in the sermon about treating others as you want to be treated. And here were these adults talking trash about other ppl behind their backs, mocking their fashion sense, the behavior of their kids, their appearances, etc. It did not do much for my opinion of religion.
