Eugenics in the United States

You might want to inform Hillary about these guys and see if she'll say nice things about them too....Sen. Rockefeller was a Democrat wasn't he ? He'll want to defend the family name too....
Whats your point ?.....Oh, that they were white guys? yeah how about that...Sanger was white too....

Dumb as a box of rocks.

Weren't you whining that Sanger was racist on the other thread? Yet these old guys were exactly the same but you gloss over it.

And what, exactly, does their political leaning have to do with anything?

God, you're an idiot. First sentence: "Looks like Sanger got her kooky ideas..." And on the other thread I said she was nutty.

I'm not defending Sanger, lughead. I posted this as a defense to the thread about Hillary, and the unfair criticism that because she supports the work of Planned Parenthood, she must also support every dumb idea Sanger had.

I haven't seen any of you criticize the men of eugenics on this thread so I guess you must be defending them.

i didn't create the thread and then spend all my time bitching about white men, while only saying she got her kooky ideas from OTHERS (nice dishonest cherry pick of what you wrote)....thus defending her.... ideas about sanger....it comes off as if you're defending her because others ALSO practiced it....trust me, i'm not the only one telling you that....but oh no, it can be you, it must be everyone else

christie is being dishonest here....she is the one seemingly defending sanger because she got her ideas from others (rich white boys)....

no one else has to criticize anyone, YOU made the thread blaming others....and then focusoing on their race and gender....its pathetic and dishonest

I find it amusing how Chris thinks she is blowing the lid off something big, as though we didn't already know that many people in the early 20th century were racist.

What's really funny is that bravo started this crap and you're giving him a pass on it. Read his other thread and get back to me.

bravo: "She espoused the thinking of eugenicists -- similar to Darwin's "survival of the fittest" -- but related the concept to human society, saying the genetic makeup of the poor, and minorities, for example, was inferior."

"On the rights of the handicapped and mentally ill, and racial minorities: "More children from the fit, less from the unfit -- that is the chief aim of birth control

"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population."

LOL

Yurt really can't read...

All Quotes from Sanger....

"

Are you trying to hold me responsible for Sanger's words and beliefs ? I'm not the one that "admired her" in any way....

Hillary favorably compared this person to Thomas Jefferson

Hillary says "I admire Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision….
------------------------------
I wonder if it was her vision to eradicate the blacks in America or just the "feeble minded" that Hillary admired.....man, that would have decimated the democratic party wouldn't it...

OMG, you are an Idiot with a capital "I". Do you really think that a bunch of conservatives are going to give me a pat on the back for my posts?

Get your head examined, your deficits are overpowering any ability you ever had to write a lucid post.

My point is that Sanger took on the establishment and crusaded for a woman's right to use artificial birth control, back in the days when women had few rights of any kind. More people know of her in relation to Planned Parenthood and safe, legal birth control rather than her nuttier ideas on eugenics.

Your reaction is interesting. Do you have a problem with birth control? Or is it that you don't like it when the facts show that it was actually men who were the biggest proponents of eugenics? Not just men, racist bastards like Carnegie, Harriman, Gould and Rockefeller.

Don't forget Henry Ford and Woodrow Wilson!!! I have a book on my shelf that I plan to read this summer, it is called, " War Against the Weak, Eugenics, and America's campaign to Create and Master Race, Edwin Black

Black claims that the USA's draconian laws were what "fascinated" Hitler

And if you actually read her speech, you'd realize the entire focus was on family planning coupled with women's rights. I realize it's small print and no pictures but give it a shot, you may learn something.

Not at all. The more people who use it, the better.

I have no objections to you pointing that out. I am indifferent to any of the individuals you've mentioned. Unlike you, race (the fact that they were "white men") isn't an issue to me.

So you're indifferent to the men I mentioned but not indifferent to Sanger. How telling.

I'm indifferent to Sanger, too. The bitch has been dead for 45 years and is irrelevant to me. I admire a lot of the work she did, but she was also a disgusting bigot. This is similar to my admiration for Martin Luther - he did a great deal of good, but he was also violently antisemitic. What I find baffling is that you'd create a thread pinning eugenics on white, rich men, as though Sanger bears no responsibility for her actions/beliefs. No, not just baffling - I find it deeply disturbing.

I repeat: You're dumb as a box of rocks.

Rockefeller is John D. (March 21, 1906 – July 10, 1978), not the senator.

Well, it does bear repeating, and I am sure that some need to hear it, again.

I find it deeply disturbing that someone would start a thread on an event from over two years ago, apparently to try and allege that Hillary supported the eugenics movement just because she admired Sanger for her work with women and birth control.

You claim you're indifferent to Sanger and the others yet you've answered and/or groaned a number of posts. Not a sign of indifference.

Furthermore, you're showing characteristics of some of the fringe righties here, which is to tell everyone what I really mean. I don't need someone to translate my comments; I'm perfectly capable of answering for what I write. Furthermore, you're abetting yurt and bravo in the fiction they created that somehow I'm "supporting" Sanger because I started a thread on the entire movement. Maybe you just don't like seeing the unsavoury aspects of this country's past brought to light, but that's your problem, not mine.

I should give it a shot, huh?.....Like you gave a shot to Thomas Jefferson referring to his sex life with a Negro slave like that was the only thing he did in his life that mattered.....
Give it a shot ?.....Maybe you ought to give it a rest while you still have some dignity left.
