Erin Moran, of Happy Days, dies from opiate overdose

I guess Erin should have signed up for Obamacare back in 2010? It appears she did not go to the doctor or have any health care insurance, and Trump and the GOP are trying is to get rid of the ACA too?

I'm alway axing kenny here if he has some original thoughts, and like this, the three or four times that he's responded proves that he doesn't. LOL

It is funny that some of the people who seem sad about this death are also those who are all about legalizing marijuana. As if the two aren't the different sides of the same coin.

Oh, I know the arguments, "marijuan is different". But, they really aren't.

I have very mixed feelings about drugs and the so called "war on drugs". My strong libertarian streak says live and let live. However, I have seen firsthand how devastating it can be to a person and their family

nobody has ever died for smoking or using marijuana. It is one of the safest drugs on the planet.

Thousands die every year from alcohol poisoning and I assume you don't want to ban alcohol.

People can become physically addicted to alcohol and smoking tobacco. With marijuana, you do not develop a physical dependence. I vape weed all the and then go on the road for months....no withdrawl symptoms.

I concede however that desh would be the perfect counterargument against my claims. She's fried.

The skunk sold in this country has been selectively bred to be extremely high in THC. I don't think it is merely coincidence that the rise in schizophrenia and the huge increase in skunk use are not in some way linked.

Saves wear and tear on the lungs. I'd say it's healthier to smoke 1 or 2 hit weed than a shitload of crappy weed.

There is a very good reason for that, the US is the world leader in opiate abuse.

80% of the prescription market ... maybe because Americans afford it. And don't think opium is very popular in the U.S., or as easy to access as in other countries.

But your a Brit, you guys are experts in the opium trade.:britf:

Does the gov't still issue heroin laced cigarettes over there for addicts?

Well Tom you have egg on your face again sourcing British tabloids. It appears Erin Moran likely died from cancer.

Oh well if it makes you feel better, only yesterday you were saying that you wish there were multiple thanks. She lost her house due to foreclosure, was kicked out of a trailer park by her mother in law, split up with her husband, was an alcoholic and couldn't get any work. How do you know that she wasn't addicted to opiates? With those problems I would be amazed if she wasn't, to be honest.

I offered multiple thanks for holding physicians accountable for the opiate problem in the US.

So how do you know that her cancer wasn't the issue with her decline? I saw that happen with my brother. He went from earning a six figure income to not being able to work, spending all his savings and investments on cancer treatment and at the end being broke and dependent on family. It appears the British tabloids jumped to a wrong conclusion again.

The Daily Mail has a US web edition, they were the ones that broke that story. Her friends including Henry Winkler tried to get her work but she refused. There is no doubt that she had big personal problems going way back, don't know what her cancer was but I wager that it was lifestyle related due to her well documented problems with drink and drugs.

Just checked and she died of throat cancer, which is almost always due to lifestyle issues such as drinking and smoking. Oh and I'm sure that you know that opioids abuse have been extensively linked to cancer.

No they don't, where did you get that idea from. What they do though is give addicts methadone instead of heroin.

Only works if addicts want to get clean.
Methadone is a sleepier high ( impossible not to nod out),and there is no "rush" like when using dope.
But it does serve the opiate craving, and is a good way to taper off faster acting opiates

Saw it on a documentary forever ago.

" Drug Alcohol Rev. 2006 Mar;25(2):115-21.
Patients receiving a prescription for diamorphine (heroin) in the United Kingdom.
Metrebian N1, Carnwath Z, Mott J, Carnwath T, Stimson GV, Sell L.
Author information
Abstract

The United Kingdom is unusual internationally in that it is one of few countries able to prescribe diamorphine for the treatment of opiate dependence. Prescribing diamorphine has been part of the UK response to drug problems since the 1920s. Despite this, little is known about who receives diamorphine and how treatment is delivered. This study aims to describe the characteristics and treatment regimes of opiate-dependent drug users receiving a prescription for diamorphine in the United Kingdom in 2000, and report on their status in 2002."
