Equifax data leak may affect nearly half the US population

this is true. The best is not to use debit cards but to use a cash back credit card with 0$ amf and pay in full every month. That way your money increases 2-4% just because

That's what I do. What card gives 4 % cash back? Well, you money doesn't increase 2%. The idea is you purchase more than if you had a wad of green in your hand, and that is probably true.

no they are not. If I told you to tell me exactly how much your credit score would go up by if you had a 0 balance on your statement you would not be able to answer it. Not least because all 4 companies use their own retarded system which means it has a different impact across the board.

For something that touches on every single thing in your life you should be able to tell me exactly how every thing you do impacts it.

When you say "easy to figure out" you just know that they go up by some amount but not exactly how much.

Paying your CC bills 2 weeks ahead of time is even meaningless. They report to the credit bureaus once a month anyway. Only what is on your statement matters. If you pay everything off and use your card a lot you could still end up with a high utilization on your statement.

Not everyone is using the same formula either.

Four years ago I bought a business which turned out to be a disaster. Within 6 months I chocked up $17k credit card debt trying to keep employees paid and inventory flowing. This was costing me $250/ month in interest. So I did a home equity line of credit to get the interest rate to a more reasonable 4%. My bank had no problem doing this at all- thanked me profusely for my business. I paid the loan off in six months, then sold the business, after one year, at a loss. If I didn't have excellent credit I'd have lost a boatload more.

One thing I don't understand is you get dinged if too many people check your credit report yet to rent a home, lease a car etc they are all going to check your credit. How does that work?

There is a soft pull that does not affect the score. The thinking is, however, that if you are getting a bunch of hard pulls of your CBR, that you are seeking money for a reason, and that reason may be inability to pay bills.

Costco MC gives 2% back, 4% on purchases at their store and for travel type expenses (gas, restaurants). Several other cards do the same for certain types of purchases- one of mine does grocery items. So you analyze what you buy most of, then get that card. I have three different cards in my wallet, designated for the type of purchases that they give me the 4% for.

Its a game. Play it better than they do and be the winner.

Do you use a debit card? (asking within the context of if you don't use either that seems like a lot of cash to have to carry around otherwise).

For those who can stay within their budget CC's are great in that the company is essentially giving you free money for several weeks. But for those who can't CC's are horrible

There is the added benefit of fraud protection with CC that is not there for the debit card (or cash)

You are not responsible for above $50, but some guy steals your debit and has the pin, or whatever way they manage it, they can drain your account and you have no recourse as against thre bank.

"card users" are basically number recipients. it is beasty... http://biblehub.com/kjv/revelation/13.htm. no thanks. when the damned revoke paper currency I am out of the us gov./ global skins game. [ I /me does currently think that this scriptures references the fail/ fraud of "Osiris" [which the unlawful district of Columbia is a shrine thereto/ the "six theories" which replace or [anti] The Lord Jesus Christ. He is The Lord, The Creator. He is God. man will not replace Him and satan/ Lucifer / "allah" have failed... got a little winded. testimony is strong and true.

The idea that there is no fraud protection for a debit card, is incorrect.

I've had my card hacked 3 different times, over a 4 year period, and got all my money back from the bank.

I have a Citibank card that I use to pay filing fees to the court......it pays 2% and I average $1000 a week in charges so its fun to watch it build up......

Paid it off, 4 years ago.
We didn't have a Credit Card, when we purchased it.

I'm in no hurry to pay mine off and here's why: if the shit hits the fan and the Fed starts printing money, inflation goes through the roof, I'll use the cash and bank accounts to pay off the mortgage with those useless dollars. So its a hedge against hyper inflation.
