Environmental policy that is bad for environment

it is no longer wasted.....

remember pictures like this back in the 90s?

So again you prefer to look foolish vs. actually READING the article?

I know it used the waste... but it is ALSO seeing farmers use conservation land for production. PRODUCTION is up over 30% since corn began being used for biofuel. WHAT PART OF THAT are you failing to comprehend?

uh, no.....algae grows IN water, plus you would still have to process the algae INTO ethanol which would require far more drying than corn (that is where the energy is consumed)......

Corn requires FRESH water. Algae can grow using salt water. Meaning we are not using drinking water. Algae can produce more fuel per acre than corn as it can be harvested multiple times per year. Algae CONSUMES CO2... the thing the fear mongers say is causing global warming.

1) it doesn't raise the cost of feeding livestock because they can be fed what's left after ethanol is made with zero calorie loss......and the cost of the corn you consume as a human is less than the cost of the fuel it takes to deliver your food to the grocery store......

LMAO... so the cost of corn shot from $2.50 to $8.00 during increasing production because of what again?

2) corn prices have tripled, meaning that instead of losing money on the acres grown to corn in a given year, farmers actually make a profit......are you opposed to someone making a profit instead of losing money?

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Land that used to go for $500/acre for corn production is now scaling about 10 times that because of the spike in prices of corn. Show us where you get your information that farmers were losing money on corn production before.

3) provide a link to the claim that algae also leaves a by product that can be used as a food source....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algae_fuel

and you cannot put an "algae site" on land without degrading the soil......it would have to be grown either in a pond or in a tank....how do you propose to do either without impacting the land on which it is built?......

1) A tank does not cause soil erosion
2) Obviously using a pond is an easy option.

so you're objecting because the attempt to use wasted grain was successful?.....what is it you don't realize about this bogus "conservation" claim?.....

there are no current projects using saltwater algae......the only project that was attempting it gave up last year....there are some projects currently studying freshwater algae........

algae currently does NOT produce more fuel per pound than corn.....since it is grown in tanks instead of in a field it is ridiculous to use a "per acre" comparison.....both corn and algae consume co2....

???....demand for use in ethanol....most of the corn consumed by humans is in corn syrup sweeteners in soda......the amount of corn in a can of coke went from 3 cents to 9 cents.....did you go broke?......there is about 45 cents worth of corn in a box of corn flakes you pay $4 for instead of 15 cents worth......

mostly from my two brother's in law who farm in Iowa.....corn costs approximately $3.95/bushel to grow....when it sold for $2.50, guess what.....

perhaps a tank does not cause soil erosion but the bed of concrete it sits on really fucks up the soil.....a pond would be an option if you have lots and lots of water sitting around......
