English law blocks Scottish independence

The separatist leaders of Catalonia tried it in 2017. Catalonia is one of the richest provinces of Spain, with its own language and culture. There was a majority for independence.

The Spanish government flooded the province with police, imposed direct rule, and jailed the separatists. No country in the world recognized Catalan independence.

In the unlikely event that the SNP holds an unauthorised referendum, and the even unlikelier event that they get a majority, it's difficult to say what would happen.

Scotland and Ireland will join them in success, sooner or later.
