Prison inmates are turning to Islam and when we consider the high incarceration rate in the US and people prevented from getting a job due to having a criminal record it's a variation on the "preventing the buying and selling of goods by those lacking the mark of the Beast". When a person's ability to support themselves and their family is due to them having grown a plant (marijuana) or stealing food because they're hungry in a country that has an over abundance of food the gross injustice is going to drive certain people mad, as in insane. Islam gives them an organized outlet as opposed to just striking out in anger.

i read an article about this in a professional journal. while not outright saying that all 'conversions' to islam are insincere, apparently in prison, you get special food if you are jewish or muslim. further, the article stated that most american conversions are to the nation of islam. interestingly, most muslims do not consider the nation of islam to be a true islamic faith because they distort "true" islam to a great degree.

That's why I continually say we have to help people. The rhetoric is we have to help the people in Islamic nations get out of poverty so they are not bitter but what help are we offering the people here who first-hand see the gap between the haves and have-nots? When the disadvantaged see middle aged people, those who lived by the rules all their life, lose their job and home they realize there's something fundamentally wrong with the system. Witnessing entire communities being destroyed (factories/businesses closed) with no input from community members while a few reap obscene profits is it any wonder a radical belief system will take hold?

this is entirely possible and plausible. history supports this and to some degree, this is how islam rose in the east. this is one of the reasons i support many social programs. i don't support the abuse or all of them, but they are a necessity in a society that wants to endure. you cannot create a large class of poor people and expect to survive. there has to be a large middle class and that has to be stable. buffet is a big proponent of this.

The question is not whether radical Islam is happening. It is. The question is what are we, as a society, doing so wrong as to push people towards such a barbaric belief system?[/Q

for the reason i stated above, i don't believe we are. further, i don't believe many will turn to radical islam in the west. we saw that shortly after 9/11, but that was a mere fad <-- yes fad, not fade. it was something new and the west is always looking to something new, something to believe in, something to wear, something to watch, we are a society of consumers and islam was merely consumed. imo;.

This works by changing the government. This works by supporting a government that removes laws against such things as oral sex to possession of small amounts of marijuana. This works by supporting a government that is pro social policies that help people.

you are likely right. but what if it could be? i don't believe it ever will, because religious beliefs will likely never allow it.

no, it could never be. there are too many people in this world that not only would die to keep their freedom, but many others that would join to have that freedom. the monstrous spectre of a one world government should strike fear in the hearts of all except those who choose to be slaves.

as for the op, most muslims just want the same things most americans (and most people around the world) want, a steady job that allows them to support themselves and the their family and to left alone by busybodies that want to impose their ways on them

having said that, i do not agree with the portions of islam or anyother religion or philosophy that wants to impose their beliefs on others
