An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee has been found guilty of murdering an 8-year-old girl.

Juvenile Court judge Dennis Roach II sentenced him to state custody until he turns 19.

The boy and 8-year-old McKayla Dyer lived in the same mobile home park in White Pine, Tennessee, about 40 miles outside of Knoxville.

McKayla, her 11-year-old sister and another girl, also 11, were playing outside and talking to the boy while he was sitting at his bedroom window on Oct. 3, 2015.

He asked the sisters to go get their puppies, the judge's order says, and when they refused he told the girls he had guns.

McKayla laughed at him and responded that the guns weren't real.

The boy "then made certain the gun was loaded, cocked the hammer on the gun and shot the victim just above the heart at a downward trajectory," the judge wrote.

The girl fell backward, "quickly lost consciousness, and was later confirmed dead," the judge wrote, adding that three witnesses saw McKayla within one minute after she was shot.

"The mother of the child knelt on the ground and picked her up, placing her child in her arms as she passed away."

The boy had been trained in firearm safety and had hunted with his father and grandfather, the judge noted.

An 8-year-old boy is in custody after attempting to rob a Florida grocery store at gunpoint.

“He went through the entry door and very quietly, very confidently,” said one clerk, who did not want to be identified. “He was wearing like a motorcycle helmet, and he was wearing a sweater over his mouth. He was only showing his eyes.”

The boy walked up to the cashier and pointed a gun hidden underneath a sweater. The clerk and another employee quickly sprang into action.

“I just turned his wrist and took it out from his hand. At that point, another coworker of mine grabbed him,” the clerk explained.

In the video, you can see the 8-year-old boy try to escape the grasp of the clerk. Investigators say the boy stole the gun from his mother.

I think there are some jurisdictions that would find, due to his age, that he was not competent and thus not guilty via his age. I do though agree he needs to be rehabilitated, not sure the State can do that.

A 15-year-old who was shot is now at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Police went to a home in the 1200 block of Rosedale Drive just before 9:00 Sunday night after the 15-year-old girl was taken to Good Samaritan hospital by her father.

She was then taken by Careflight to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

A sergeant tells us that the girl and four other children were home alone when the shooting happened.

Police say a 3-year-old Alabama boy has accidentally shot his 9-year-old sister in the head.

Irondale police Chief Ken Atkinson tells AL.com that the shooting took place Saturday afternoon at their grandparents' house in a Birmingham suburb.

He says the grandfather had left a loaded pistol on a bedroom nightstand, where the boy found it.

Atkinson says the incident seems to be a "tragic accident".

A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot himself, police say.

Kaufman County police Capt. Fred Klingelberger said officials were called to a trailer about the shooting. Klingelberger said two boys, ages 5 and 6, were watching TV when the 5-year-old grabbed a handgun.

Eddie Eagle tells kids if they see a gun to leave the area and tell an adult; how is that bad?

Nowhere is Eddie Eagle mentioned so how is this an instance of "Eddie Eagle in the news"?

So you have found a kid murderer who was instructed in gun use but statistically speaking, it has been shown that children who are taught about guns and responsible and safe use by family members are less likely to engage in bad behaviors than those who had no gun exposure and much, much less than those who's socialization into guns is done "on the street".

"Adolescent ownership and use of firearms is a growing concern, and results from the Rochester study suggest the concern is well founded.

By the ninth and tenth grades, more boys own illegal guns (7 percent) than own legal guns (3 percent). Of the boys who own illegal guns, about half of the whites and African-Americans and nearly 90 percent of the Hispanics carry them on a regular basis.

Figure 13 shows a very strong relationship between owning illegal guns and delinquency and drug use. Seventy-four percent of the illegal gunowners commit street crimes, 24 percent commit gun crimes, and 41 percent use drugs. Boys who own legal firearms, however, have much lower rates of delinquency and drug use and are even slightly less delinquent than nonowners of guns.

The socialization into gun ownership is also vastly different for legal and illegal gunowners. Those who own legal guns have fathers who own guns for sport and hunting. On the other hand, those who own illegal guns have friends who own illegal guns and are far more likely to be gang members. For legal gunowners, socialization appears to take place in the family; for illegal gunowners, it appears to take place “on the street.”
