The second trial out of Special Counsel John Durham’s years-long investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe begins this week with Igor Danchenko, the Russian national who served as the primary sub-source for the anti-Trump dossier, in court fighting five counts of making false statements to the FBI.

Danchenko pleaded not guilty last year to lying about the source of information that he provided to ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele for the dossier, which contained salacious and now-debunked allegations against former President Donald Trump.

Durham charged Danchenko last year. The charges stem from certain statements Danchenko made to the FBI relating to the sources he used in providing information to an investigative firm in the United Kingdom related to the dossier.

Danchenko served as the primary sub-source for Steele’s dossier, which was commissioned by opposition research firm Fusion GPS and paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee through law firm Perkins Coie.

The dossier served as the basis for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page — something Justice Department's Inspector General Michael Horowitz revealed in 2019.....

The Russian that Hillary bought the fake dossier from goes on trial tomorrow.

Some interesting testimony should come out at the trial.

The only interesting testimony was how Durham tried to get his witnesses to lie on the stand but the defense lawyers kept catching him up on it. The judge dismissed the one charge because Durham tried to charge someone for lying when the evidence shows they told the truth. Durham's own witnesses admitted he told the truth. The other four charges will be quickly thrown out by the jury if the judge doesn't do it after closing statements.

Durham has been a joke and violated policies of the Department of Justice. At this point all he can do is write his report and then get it torn apart for being full of false statements.

The FBI trying to pay for the dossier to be verified but Steele being unable was very telling

ROFLMAO.. Not quite the truth there. An offer to prove the crime of collusion in a court of law. Not an offer to prove anything was true.

Under oath....
Crossfire Hurricane was initiated prior to the Steele dossier.
FBI agents testified they had plenty of evidence without the Steele dossier to investigate people around Trump.
3 of the 4 people investigated were convicted of a crime. Manafort, Papadopoulos, and Stone.
The Durham investigation actually harmed national security because it interfered with FBI sources.

Q Now, a quick summary would be to say that Crossfire Hurricane started because someone who was represented to be a high-level Trump campaign official and advisor, Mr. Papadopoulos, allegedly indicated that the Russians would help leak damaging information to the Clintons and Obamas, right?

A They had received a suggestion that they could be helped that way, yes.

Q Again, that person was George Papadopoulos, right?

A That is correct.

Q Okay. And the FBI opened an investigation on July 31, 2016?

A Yes.

Q That was before you had any information regarding the Steele dossier, right?

A That is correct.

Q That was before you even — so you would agree with me that the opening of that investigation had nothing to do with the Steele information; it had nothing to do with the initiation of Crossfire Hurricane?

Q Now, you also understand that when Crossfire Hurricane opened — I think you testified yesterday that there were four people who the government was looking at, correct?

A Correct.

Q Papadopoulus?

A Correct.

Q Paul Manafort, the former campaign manager?

A Correct.

Q Carter Page?

A Correct.

Q And the fourth?

A Michael Flynn.

Q And are you aware that — I think Mr. Durham asked you — whether Mr. Page was ever charged or convicted of a crime?

A Yes, he did. He asked me that.

Q And what did you tell him?

A No.

Q What about the other three people?

A Well, Mr. Manafort, yes.

Q Was he convicted?

A Yes.

Q Next person?

A Michael Flynn.

Q Convicted?

A Yes.

Q Okay. Next?

A George Papadopoulos.

Q Okay. And?

A Yes.

Q So three of those four were convicted of crimes?

A Correct.

Q Based on the Crossfire Hurricane investigation?

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A judge on Friday tossed out one of of five counts against a think-tank analyst charged with lying to the FBI about his role in the creation of a flawed dossier about former President Donald Trump.

The remaining four counts against Igor Danchenko will go to a jury Monday after prosecutors and the defense rested their cases Friday. But Judge Anthony Trenga reserved the right to toss out the other four counts regardless of what the jury decides.
