If the US is going to change the immigration laws I want them to change it so that Cubans can't just put a foot on US soil and they are safe. Things are worse for people in Mexico than they are in Cuba. The violence alone in Juarez makes that true.

The funny thing about Florida is there are plenty of people here that want to keep the other 2/3 of those new residents (Americans) out, too. People who were not born here want to limit growth and have tried to demand impact fees that punish new out-of-staters. There is no difference in their impact and the logic is the same. It's basically, "we got in, now let's bar the door."

My family has been here (Florida) since the mid-to-late 1800s. I have never shared that animosity against new residents. Let 'em come. There's plenty of beach (soon tar balls), mosquitoes and suffocating humidity for everyone.

Legal contact would have allowed them to stop anyone they had a legal right to interact with. That is, they could not bust into your house and pull you out. But if they walked past you on the street they were permitted to investigate you based on suspicion. It was changed, though.

The stats don't matter.

The real institutional discrimination against white didn't begin till the eighties. So you have to breakout the backloaded discrimination into the latest years. And you have to look at the direction of the trend.

Hiring a white male would always open a company up to a suit if a minority was also up for the job. Because when you hire whites you have to "prove they're better". you have to have "documentation that justifies your near criminal act of hiring a white male". Any competent legal department would advise always hiring a minority if one is available. Period. What if a white guy was just the same as? Or even just a little bit better, but enough better that it would be provable in a court of law? There is no question this is a civil rights denying legal double standard, based on wrongheaded notion of collectivist race justice and revenge oriented employment policy.
