In civilised nations drink-driving is taken seriously.

Why, just the other day, a Sugababe was charged with driving with excess alcohol in Camden.

In the US, celebrities get a slap on the wrist from a magistrate.

happen to catch a hearing this week where the defendant was drunk, behind the wheel, so drunk, that he crashed through a fence, into the yard and hit 3 children, pinning a fourth to the wall while the father and mother watched in horror and tried to get the guy to STOP the car....the drunk motherfucker instead backs up and runs over againand KILLs 3 of the children

I am assuming that the expression 'down under' refers to Australia or perhaps New Zealand? In which case I applaud your research but refrain from comment since, although some of my friends live there I do not.
 
Americans do not need to do research to learn that "Down Under" is a very common reference to those great island nations of Oceana.

There are no native species of marsupials in New Zealand. South America and Central America have over 100 but it's clear that down under doesn't mean Brazil.
