Draft GOP Platform Calls to Undo Marriage Equality, Endorses Conversion Therapy
The Republican Party's official platform left its only gay committee member in tears

The Republican party is set to take a lurch even further to the right if delegates decide to ratify the draft party platform for the year, which boasts controversial positions on same-sex marriage, conversion therapy, and even porn.

Party officials are currently working through the platform, but have already approved a number of controversial measures. One of the worst of those is on marriage equality, where the party has called for a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman.

“Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society,” the draft platform states. “For that reason, as explained elsewhere in the platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to states.”

That’s only the beginning of the platform’s anti-LGBT content though. An amendment offered by the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins endorses the thoroughly debunked practise of conversion therapy for LGBT kids, “support[ing] the right of parents to determine the proper treatment or therapy, for their minor children.”

Another section calls to oppose the Obama administration’s move to protect trans schoolchildren’s right to access the restroom of their gender identity. “We support and encourage the common sense practice of protecting public safety and personal privacy by limiting access to restrooms, locker rooms, and similar facilities based on biological gender,” the platform reads.

Washington, D.C. delegate Rachel Hoff, the first and only openly gay member of the committee, was left emotional after trying and failing to soften the platform’s language on same-sex marriage. “All I ask today is that you include me and people like me,” she said, fighting back tears. “Freedom means freedom for everyone, including for gays and lesbians.”

Beyond LGBT issues, the platform supports following Donald Trump’s calls for an “America-first” trade policy, calls to teach the Bible as part of “American history”, and “congratulates” states that have declined to implement Common Core curriculum standards. Perhaps strangest of all, it also turns the party towards the real threat facing America today: internet porn.

“Pornography, with his harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing.”

Hell, conservatives in Maine are so scared of "the gays" they want to criminalize butt sex.

this is what happens when the rnc convention is populated by cruzlims.

Hell, conservatives in Maine are so scared of "the gays" they want to criminalize butt sex.

you do know what happened in the primaries yes? Cruz managed to get all his ultraconservative people in the convention and this is the result.

Fortunately trump can just ignore this :)

Do you have a cite for this? I find this hard to believe.

I also do not believe the OP.

Maine conservatives admit removing LGBT protections is the first step to making homosexuality a crime again

A right-wing Christian activist group is pushing a ballot measure that would strip LGBT protections from the voter-approved Maine Human Rights Act — but they actually have another goal in mind.

Michael Heath, former head of the Christian Civic League of Maine, is promoting an initiative to remove “sexual orientation” from the measure passed 11 years ago by voters, but he admits his true aim is to legally ban homosexuality, reported WGME-TV.

“There is conduct that ought to be punished, and Christianity teaches, has always taught and still does teach, that sodomy is such a behavior,” Heath said.

If liberals think they can undo Citizens United why can't their pet causes be undone?

because gays arent muslims. We can coexist with them. They are quite fun actually. Not to mention we have a Dangerous Faggot on the Trump Train who will be our new press secretary.

I don't get the anti-porn stance. Millions of people watch it. The ones most against it are feminists who think it exploits women. People should be free to watch it or not. We need the government to call it a national health issue?

arent women actors paid more than men actors in porn?

We can coexist with queers, but we can define marriage as it rightfully is. A covenant between a man and a woman and we can undo what the Supreme Court did

If the lefties think they can undo the 2nd Amendment and Citizens United then why not?
