Dow plunged over 300 points today

interesting...something like this happened the last time obama won

I don't think the move has much to do with who won, but more to do with the election is now over and the fight in Congress is about to begin. Perhaps a small move down in equities and up in bonds due to Obama winning (which makes more easing from Fed more likely), but I think the bulk of the move is because of the fight about to start.

you're most likely correct. i doubt obama's winning had much to do with it at all. i was just pointing out the coincidence.

interestingly, the stock market did well with the fight we've had the last 2 or so years. i think wall street is ambivalent about who won this election.

Financial firms such as J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and Bank of America Corp. took a beating Wednesday after President Barack Obama's win, leading option traders in a popular exchange-traded fund to flee failed election bets "in epic proportions."

"It's fairly obvious people were using XLF as a vehicle to try to take advantage of a Romney win in the presidential election," said Brian Overby, senior options analyst at online brokerage TradeKing. "This morning, traders bailed in epic proportions at the open, just trying to salvage what they could get."

Bank stocks were in focus ahead of the election amid expectations a Mitt Romney administration would attempt to overturn the Dodd-Frank financial-overhaul law passed in 2010, potentially easing the way for banks to boost revenues squeezed by stricter regulations.

Obama was elected last time right as the market was entering a 40% crash.

The stock market has been propped up hard by the Fed the last two years. They are building a new bubble... this one will really hurt when it bursts. I would not want to be in most areas of equity right now.
