In this very thread, I'm not the least bit aligned with those who I typically agree with.

Of course, I'm a lot older than quite a few here, and it's not unusual to base our position on our personal life experiences.

My sister spent more than a decade in college and exited a chiropractor. A damn good one, but the pay was shit unless she went in for another $200k for an office back in the '80s.

With no drive, and absolutely no common sense, she works in Home Depot.

Different scenario. There is equity to acquire if a person defaults on a mortgage.

There is no other option that forgiveness of student debt, as there is nothing there to repo.

Taxes go to fund things like infrastructure and what not, but what do student loans fund?

So again, what is the economic benefit to people paying student loans instead of buying things in the consumer economy, starting a family, buying a house, or starting a business?

You can't concieve of one...because if you did, you would have already said it.

As it stands, the only argument you've made against it is one of "unfairness".

A lawyer might hope to be a millionaire.

Hedge fund managers are multi multi millionaires, or billionaires.

That's why using averages isn't always useful. It seems my list of billionaires that don't have degrees got omitted from this discussion.

not quite the same............A tax cut allows me to keep more of my money in my pocket at no expense to anyone else. loan forgiveness from the government makes everyone else pay for it.

No, only one side is incorrect because we have mountains of data that show people with college degrees earn substantially more than those without.

Feelings aren't data.

Data is data.

And fortunately, because this is in dollars, we can get accurate data. And that data universally concludes that having a college degree means you will make substantially more than someone who doesn't have one.

all I'm seeing from you here is that YOU are the one that led a sheltered and privileged life. Not being taught to own up to your own debts, but instead being taught that there will always be someone around to take those on for you, leaving you to continue to make bad decisions in borrowing money that you can't, or won't, pay back.
