Don't Ask, Don't TELL

And hopefully; the upper brass will be honest enough to severly consequence any individuals engaging in such behavior and discharge them, if necessary.

The military is supposed to be trained to fight, not who or how to fuck.
Hopefully. But, as when racial integration was being implemented, the official "no tolerance of racism" policy was not exactly evenly enforced. Things did not change significantly until a large portion of the old timers retired.

Unfortunately, I anticipate the same situation in which transgressions are given the unofficial wink and nod until a large portion of the current career military retires and makes way for those who grow up with the policy.

We'll just have to wait and see; but hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

You are living in dream land if you think it is going to be that easy. While being gay is no longer a cause for OTH discharge, you can bet there are going to be a LOT of "unofficial" repercussions for military gays.

It is not right that such should happen. But anyone who thinks otherwise has no concept of reality on this issue.

Yep... When that openly gay soldier goes in to search a building expecting cover from his fellow comrades, they might just get smoke in their eye and fail to see the targets... When the openly gay soldier calls in for air support, there might just be static interference on the radio, and the call for assistance might not be heard... What pinhead liberals seem to not comprehend is, this didn't end prejudice. It does make it considerably easier for a bigot to know who to target with their bigotry, and you can expect that to happen more now.

And yet; you would rather bitch and moan, instead of explaining your earlier assertions. :good4u:

You're one sick pup.

You're one sick pup.

Nope, just one realistic pup, who understands how life and reality are in the real world, unlike a pie-in-the-sky pinheaded liberal. Betcha money, when "openly gay" soldiers start slobbering all over each other at social functions, the way Bfoon describes, there will be repercussions from it. Things like this are going to happen, and worse... some of these 'openly gay' soldiers might just 'go missing' at some point, and no one ever finds out what happened to their gay butt-loving asses... hey, let's face reality on this, okay?

Dixie, you seem to think this has not been happening before now?

And do you think that the military is populated by bigots and neanderthals?

Yes, I am sure there are some who have an intense dislike for gays, much like some of our posters. But an entire unit? Do you think they will dislike them enough to murder them? You may HOPE for that, so you can do an "I told you so". But I doubt you have much understanding of the dynamics of a unit such as you describe.

Just curious; but how long have you fantazied about gay soldiers "slobbering" all over each other?? :whoa:

HA HA HA HA HA HA

Dixie, this is just bullshit, and I am calling you on it. There is nothing in the way of evidence that this will happen. You have your fantasies, and we can all see them now.

Statements like "when "openly gay" soldiers start slobbering all over each other at social functions" and "their gay butt-loving asses", sort of shoot down your "some of my best friends are gay" claims. It shows you to be the bigot we all know you to be.

If a soldier is willing to kill another soldier because of his or her sexual orientation, it is already happening. Repealing DADT doesn't change anything there.

There was a time when your ilk was all for beating up queers, or turning a blind eye to others doing it. That kept many gays in the closet. But time and tolerance have made it so that those who would beat up gays are the ones who have to hide. That will happen in the military.

And you are still using the same rhetoric that was used to fight against desegregation in the military. There were those who warned that black soldiers would be killed by racist soldiers. Should we have left the military segregated, to avoid this?

Your doom-sayer nonsense is a waste of bandwidth.

Oh, I am sure it happens already, but just think of how much more likely it is to happen now that gays are able to be open about their homosexuality?

I don't think the military is populated with bigots, but I think there are plenty of them to be found in the military. I also understand the dynamics of a unit, and I understand it only takes one person to fail to do something they are supposed to do, and people die. We're talking about combat situations, there isn't an ACLU lawyer there to defend the homosexual. Sure, after the fact, they can do an investigation, they may even bring charges... but that doesn't help the dead gay soldier much now, does it?

Understand everyone that Dixie is only concerned for the welfare of the queers and their butt-loving asses.

Listen, you can draw whatever conclusions you want to about me, I don't really give two dog shits what you think. I know I am not bigoted or prejudiced against gay people, and I do have many gay friends. What I said doesn't "shoot down" anything I've previously stated, it's just a statement of how I think reality will play out, nothing more. Because I believe there will be repercussions, doesn't mean I would condone them, or cheer them, or rub it in your nose that I told you so. I am just being honest about what I believe will be the result of this stupid policy.

And sorry you are still stuck on trying to compare this with racial equality, but NO, there wasn't anyone I am aware of who ever warned that black soldiers would be killed by prejudiced whites if we integrated the army. This isn't about RACE, it is about sexual lifestyle. Completely different thing, but you continue to try and make them one in the same. It's offensive to me, as a member of a minority race.

A unti fights as a unit. One gay soldier does not ruin unit integrity, regardless of what you think.

In fact, having openly gay soldiers in these units will actually help these bigots see the error of their ways. Nothing help racists see the light more than being forced to get to know blacks as individuals.

There may be those who fail to do their duty. But that happens anyway, and always has. It happens because their unit had blacks, or jews or whoever else they hated. And it is a mark of ignorance.

Catering to that ignorance, or allowing that ignorance to set policy is giving it power. You want to give it the power to make policy. I do not.

Think what you will, I disagree. Openly gay soldiers are not likely to help bigots overcome their bigotry, and I doubt you can give me one singe solitary example of that ever happening in reality. Now, in a liberal pinhead fantasy bubble-world, it might be that way, I don't know? In the REAL world, you can't "force" people to not be prejudiced.

No, you would not openly condone it. But you are willing to allow ignorance and prejudice to make policy for our military. That is just as bad. By refusing to help remove this official prejudice, you are helping to continue the bigotry and ignorance.

I have not said it was about race. Either you are an idiot or you are purposely ignoring what I am actually saying. I am not comparing racism with sexuality. I am comparing the reactions of those who opposed desegregating the military and those who oppose repealing DADT. And that is a valid comparison.

I'm sorry you are unaware that there were warnings that black soldiers would be killed. It does not take much research to find examples of it.

But what happens if the entire Unit, except for one guy, is gay??
Hopefully he'll just be a another "missing" southern bigot.
