Donald Trump used registered sex offender to announce return of fitness test for kids
'There wasn’t a single person in the Oval Office who though this might not be the best idea?' one person asked.
Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to bring the Presidential Fitness Test back to schools, but that was not what caused a stir on social media.
Most folks, it seems, were fine with the fitness test making a comeback for the kids.
What caused the stir was the company that the president kept in making the announcement. Joining him at the event were golf Bryson DeChambeau, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, retired champion golfer Annika Sorenstam, Triple H from the WWE and former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
It was Taylor that was the real brow raiser in the mix because … well, the 66-year-old is a registered sex offender. And that would have been something folks would have noticed on its own, but add in the current scrutiny of the president and the Epstein files, and it just didn’t go well for Trump on social media.
Taylor’s speech also drew ridicule.
“Don’t you want to say a few words?” Trump asked the NFL legend. “Come on up.”
“I’m proud to be on this team,” Taylor said. “I don’t know why. I don’t know what we are supposed to be doing, but I’m here to serve. I’m here to serve. OK, so I’m going to do the best I can for as long as I can.”
“Nobody like him,” Trump said as Taylor walked away.
Taylor was arrested in Florida last year and charged with “again failing to report a residence change as a sex offender,” NBC reported.
Taylor was arrested in 2010 on rape and prostitution charges in connection with the assault of a 16-year-old girl. He eventually pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in 2011, per NBC.
Taylor said he believed the minor was 19. He was sentenced to six years’ probation and ordered to register as a sex offender, according to the outlet.
“You literally can’t make this (expletive) up,” the Republicans against Trump account on X wrote. “Donald Trump launched a youth sports initiative at the White House today, appearing alongside Lawrence Taylor, a registered sex offender who pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct involving a trafficked 16-year-old girl.
“A new low.”
“Trump, trying desperately to change the subject from his association with underage sex, bring out his secret weapon: Lawrence Taylor,” The okayest poster there is account on X wrote.
“There wasn’t a single person in the Oval Office who though this might not be the best idea,” Gina Lou wrote on X. “How (expletive) sad and how (expletive) far the Office of the President has fallen.”
It will be interesting to see if Trump keeps Taylor in the mix for the initiative moving forward.
