The hard truth is they need to look at the case with blinders on as to "other situations". It must judged on its own terms. If they do, other situations are more likely to take care of themselves in ways that they should.
But of course. Justice must be impartial. If Trump were convicted, the right is going to try to claim partiality anyway, so the process has to be completely impartial and totally focused on the law, and proving a case with admissible evidence. It must be above reproach.
