Very few blacks can read. That's why many cities just use verbal tests now. That's crazy - cops need to be literate.

aug 28 2019 (CNN)The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Baltimore County, Maryland, Police Department, alleging it engaged in "unintended" racial discrimination in its hiring practices over the last six years.

The department made hiring decisions "based on the results of hiring examinations that were not job-related and that disproportionately excluded African American applicants," the DOJ said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

The Justice Department says it wants a court to order Baltimore County police to use selection processes that comply with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the federal anti-discrimination law.

Since 2013, the county used at least three different versions of a written exam to screen entry-level police officer and police cadet applicants, according to the complaint.

In that time, African Americans passed at a consistently lower rate than white applicants, and the difference between the two remained statistically significant, the complaint, filed in the US District Court for the District of Maryland, says.

"As a result of its use of these written examinations, Baltimore County has hired fewer African American applicants as BCPD entry-level police officers and police cadets since January 1, 2013 than it would have had it used a non-discriminatory screening device."

I have never met any black person who couldn't read, though several white folks failed that reading test in boot camp. That's not saying that some don't exist somewhere, but this nonsense you post here is just total racist crap posted by somebody who thinks making others smaller will make his own rather low IQ look larger.

OMG - is there no limit to your dishonesty.??? VERY FEW BLACKS CAN READ, and you know it same as everyone. A HS diploma does NOT prove a black is literate. Thanks to affirmative action grading, blacks are moved along and allowed to graduate.

The only illiterate adult I ever knew was an old white guy that was my tile helper for a couple of years. Nicest person you could ever meet, a very good worker, and an excellent woodworker.

I tutored a black kid in 8th grade for extra credit, my same age, that couldn't read or write, and yet had been passed into the 8th grade. Taught him the alphabet, how to tell time, read a little Jack and Jill level book, and how to write his own name in just one quarter. It was the school system that failed him, not the melanin content of his skin.
 
Either humanity will live together like civilized human beings and respect diversity and how it contributes the advancement of humanity or perish like fools. There is only one race and that is the human race to which people of all backgrounds and so-called racial identities come from one common denominator out of Africa.

This specifically is the racist drivel that I'm talking about. I told you the truth. I work with black people and have never met one that could not read. Also true: 7 people were sent back in bootcamp to get reading comprehension aid so they could pass a minimal 8th grade level reading comprehension test... all of them were white.

Does this mean standardized mathematics tests that are used for college admissions criteria that Asians do better on than other races are unintended racist also ?

HAHAHAHA. Reading does not mean playing on a cell phone. Very few blacks can read a newspaper as fast as they talk. You lie about everything.

tthe argument is that written test unfairly disadvantage black test takers.. It's an old debate -when the Feds get involved they make sure a settlement means written tests are not determinative.
This happened to Boston firefighters as well ( i thnk)

I should say the Baltimore school system is the very worst ever..there are whole schools
where not 1 student is up to achievement level!
But while the schools are majority black- the white students fare just as poorly.

The schools are tragically bad, and not for the lack of money
