NASA is out of the rocket / space system business so there is no government means to do space launches, etc. SpaceX, along with Boeing, etc., should be funded to the extent it benefits government interests.

I see no problem with the government having contracts with universities for research or other things the government needs done.
At an advisory committee to the governing board at my children’s private school, someone spoke about the double taxation that private school parents pay. Our lawyer said that it is double taxation but asked if we wanted the government’s foot in the door.
