Are not the Sauds close friends of the bushes? Much more dangerous, do you not agree?
Sigh... you mean the Saudi King Obama bowed to as soon as he was elected? Yeah... since Saudi Arabia is one of our biggest allies, and we'd all pretty much die without the oil from them, then it's probably not a bad thing our former presidents, as well as our current president, is on 'friendly' terms. But we're not talking about the Saudi's here, are we? I thought the discussion was the Egyptian president, Mubarak... seems the left wants to paint Mubarak as some "friend of the Tea Party" or something, as if the Clinton's and Obama never had any use for him... it's really quite pathetic.
Tom's right, though. There are plenty of countries in Africa which are worse than Egypt...
Mubarrak is/was a corrupt dictator who tortured his own people and left millions of them living in abject poverty. He also danced to the American 'fiddle' as far as Israel was concerned.
The Sauds finance terrorism all over the world, promote Wahabism through the issuance of Islamic school text books, kill people for being gay and were probably the first actual family to hold the US over a barrel, as it were.
Of course, because you get oil from them and you cannot bring yourself to admit that the US foreign policy is as corrupt and manipulative as any in the world, they will remain in your myopic vision, thoroughly acceptable.
Yes, and Saddam Hussein was corrupt dictator who tortured his own people... dropped poison gas bombs on them, as a matter of fact. (don't recall this happening in Egypt) Saddam also financed terror all over the world, and allowed alQaeda to train inside his country. But in the case of Saddam... OHHhhh... we have to leave him be! The people need to stand up to him on their own... we don't need to be involved... we certainly don't need to overthrow Saddam, he keeps the radicals in check... blah blah blah... and then when we DO oust him, we hear 8 years of incredulous condemnation of the right, for daring to support our troops in the ouster of a brutal tyrant dictator... Suddenly, we are supposed to jump because Mubarak is a mean person? It make NO SENSE! You people are completely off your rockers! For 8 years, all we heard about, was what a MISTAKE it was to go into Iraq and try to foster democracy in the middle east... now we have Obama, essentially utilizing the Bush Doctrine on Egypt! And Pinheads trying to criticize the right for not being on board with that! Does anyone besides me see the utter irony of all this?
First we had Clinton and Obama defending the Bush Tax Cuts...
Then we had Obama quoting Ronald Reagan...
Now we have the Administration embracing the Bush Doctrine...
Un-freaking-believable! I would have NEVER guessed this would happen!
Of course, because you get oil from them and you cannot bring yourself to admit that the US foreign policy is as corrupt and manipulative as any in the world, they will remain in your myopic vision, thoroughly acceptable.
IS EGYPT????
IS EGYPT????
Are you about to invade Egypt?
This is getting silly Dixie. Suggest we call it a day.
I hope we're not, but you asked a stupid question, so I answered it with one. Whether Saddam posed any direct immediate threat to the sovereignty of the United States, is not relevant. Just like whether Mubarak poses a threat is not relevant. How can you sit there and condemn Mubarak and our relationship with him, but give Saddam a total pass? Both men-- dictators who treat their people like shit... either we stand in opposition to that, or it's no big deal and we shouldn't get involved! It can't be one way for one dictator, and another way for the other.
Well, you're the guy that said you cannot treat one dictator one way and another dictator another way. Clinton never said that.
Well obviously, you either totally missed the point or haven't been reading the thread. Maybe both. We're hearing this condemnation of Mubarak, while you fuckwits attempt to somehow tie him to the right, as if he is some big friend of the right and adversary of the left. Democrats AND Republicans have embraced and HUGGED Mubarak! He promised (and delivered) peace to Israel for all these years, he has helped (somewhat) in the war on terrorism. Yes, he is mean to his people.... so was Saddam... did that make a difference to you, when you were condemning Bush for taking him out? So why should that make any difference now? Mubarak has been more of an ally to the US than Saddam EVER was! But here is what you see... political opportunity! Tie Mubarak to the right, and then claim it is the right who supports Mubarak remaining in power! How about we tie the left to the Muslim Brotherhood?
