I will tell you, that watching what was done to people they agreed with creates a bit of schadenfreude reaction.I did w/ what I saw recently about COVID. But there really isn't much comparison here. This board gets very caught up in the whole idea of prove yourself! Prove you have offered condemnation for all sides! I wasn't a Biden fan, but I don't buy into the assumptions about things he did or didn't do. Show me real coercion and inappropriate behavior, and I won't be hypocritical about it.
I have never seen anything like what Trump is doing previously. It's is in broad daylight, it is stark, and beyond all of that - it is being celebrated by many of his supporters. Like, they simply do not care about the implications, or about the overreach.
That's why some keep bringing up the creep into authoritarianism. That creep relies on a willing populace, which can be defined as a critical mass of those who not only support what's being done, but celebrate it.
It will take a bit, but they'll come around eventually. Many republicans care deeply about the constitution, way more deeply than they care about Trump.
However, the left disregarding what was done to right wingers for those years is foolish, their reaction comes with that history. Telling them they shouldn't care because they were better at plausible deniability?
That these people were better at creating minimal plausible deniability while still meeting openly with members of social media that would ban folks, AGs that would then prosecute folks, etc. doesn't change that they were meeting openly with the people that were prosecuting their political enemies and banning they and their friends from the public forum.
