During an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast on Tuesday, Greene cited the Declaration of Independence to defend the actual insurrection, the one in which hundreds of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol, resulting in five deaths and dozens of injuries.”

“Jan. 6 was just a riot,” Greene said, implying the violent attempt to overthrow American democracy paled in significance to the lies of BlueAnon and the media, which she said would do anything to cause her to be killed. Never mind the actual lies about the 2020 election results that led to the storming of the Capitol that put the lives of her colleagues in danger on Jan. 6.”

“If you think about what our Declaration of Independence says, it says to overthrow tyrants,” Greene continued in defense of the riot.”

Amazing how quickly they throw around such as the Declaration of Independence like it was a bumper sticker cliche. They were just showing their independence busting up the Capitol and threatening Congress members and the nation’s VP, nothing to see here

they neglect to mention the framers were creating the document to address the existential threat George III posed....that was the 'tyrant' in question

instead righties claim the very government the framers created with the constitution is tyrannical

they abuse the 2d Amendment in the same way.........A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.........to them 'securing a free state' means they can label the opposition party tyrannical and attack because the constitution said they can

The most telling thing to me is the "we're not a democracy" talking point that we've heard from conservatives here, on Fox, talk radio, et al.

Scary stuff. I think many on the right have had their fill of this "voting" thing and the "will of the people."
 
Well, we know those on the Left certainly don't have a clue about the ideas that founded the United States, only vaguely understand the country's history, and want to "fundamentally transform" it into some completely different than what the founders envisioned...

The Constitution as originally set up divided power among three branches of government, using a combination of Democracy, representative Democracy, and appointment among them. It was not intended that all public offices at the federal level be filled by direct popular vote.

The reason that was done was to separate power and ensure no branch, office, or person could dominate government.

The House was elected by direct democratic vote of those living in the representative's district. The Senate was to be elected or appointed by state governments to represent them. The method of selection of senators was left up to the states. The adoption of the 17th Amendment fucked that away and has been eroding the separation of the Senate from the House ever since. The Senate is becoming another House for all intents, eliminating it as a separate deliberative body and stripping states of their representation.

The presidency was to be by representative democracy where voters selected members of the Electoral College who would then vote on a president. The intent here was to keep the large and most populous states from steamrollering over smaller, less populous states and concentrating power in the hands of a few.

The Supreme Court was appointed. Lifetime positions meant that justices were no longer beholden to anyone in their decisions. They could rule on the basis of law and precedent without political pressure. Of course, the Left wants to pack the court to get the outcomes they want and has tried this several times in US history without success thankfully.

The Left calls for mob rule demanding we appoint all our leaders on the basis of a popular vote and nothing more.

the correct phrase would be 'we're not a straight democracy'.........it's also why you you hear 'representative democracy', which we were founded as. Mr. Gardner explained it perfectly

This is a separate problem. The easiest way to fix this is through a combination of term limits and strict limits on compensation of our elected officials. On the later, the best would be once you leave office, you get NOTHING! No retirement, no health insurance, nada, zip-point-shit. That means you have to provide these things for yourself as the public doesn't owe you a lifetime of paid leisure.

Adding term limits would help immensely too.
 
Few people now are educated enough to know much of anything about America's founding, a situation that gets worse year by year as the old die off.

The Revolution intends to permanently rewrite history, and police conversations about history.
