No. OTOH, I do support restricting access to books based upon levels of maturity.

For example; who believes that Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" or William Powell's "The Anarchist's Cookbook" belong in an elementary school library? High School or college library? I think the latter but not the former.

An elementary school kid is very unlikely to have the aptitude to read a book such as those.

Samples from an 1864 democrat arithmetic textbook ...

1. If one Confederate soldier can kill 90 Yankees, how many Yankees can 10 Confederate soldiers kill?
2. If one Confederate soldier can whip 7 Yankees, how many soldiers can whip 49 Yankees?
3. 7 Confederate soldiers captured 21 Yankees and divided them equally between them. How many did each one have?

No. Everyone's allowed to write their own opinions, no matter how dumb and stupid they may be.

Dude, I was one of those kids*. Take 30 middle-class kids, test them for IQ and the results will resemble the standard IQ bell curve of distribution within the class. The smart kids will very likely have the aptitude and then teach it to their curious but dumber friends.

Kids are naturally curious until asshole adults kill it inside them. The smart and/or tough ones will survive and learn. Knowledge is like a drug and when given a little bit then it can be controlled. Given full access to those too immature to properly use it will result in a bad outcome, and that should never be condoned to happen. When a drug is denied, it creates a feeling of resentment that will go underground and difficult to track.

Better to help our kids learn about the real world than to keep telling them daddy and mommy will do everything and Santa Claus is coming.

Are these values still being taught in schools or are they banned? Protested against? Supported by all?

Agreed. So what to do when, in a democracy, the stupid outnumber the intelligent, the educated...and the sane?

IMO, education is the solution and we're already 40 years behind. This and all the other threads about CRT, sexuality, morality, religion and the like are proving We, the People don't have a very good handle on the problem.

A book that has gotten a lot of attention over the decades (in terms of banning) has been the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. One of the more recent arguments in support of banning it is how can a white man write about racism when they don't experience it.

I know the discussion is about the principle of banning books rather than getting into the weeds but what's your thought on this one?

School libraries have certain standards. Just because they reject certain books does not mean public the can not buy books through public school libraries reject

In JHS in the early 60's we read books like: "Black like me" "The grapes of wrath" and "the jungle" , now I'm sure today they would be banned as school reading

Anti-white racist CRT propaganda and pedophile groomer indoctrination texts should be banned from schools and school libraries.

Sadly, that doesn't answer Jarod's question.

In general no, however, there are certain circumstances where it might be appropriate, I don't think having middle or even high school students reading say "Fanny Hill" would serve any purpose
