Do soldiers fight for a flag, or what it represents?

The Charge of the Light Brigade
BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON
I
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

II
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

III
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.

IV
Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

V
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

VI
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

As soldiers we fight / fought for a lot of things, our freedom, our safety, our honor, our resolve,

all of which are represented by the flag and the anthem, so yes you disrespect our flag and our anthem you disrespect us

You fought for money, which is the main thing your flag stands for.

I thought you were in touch with Russian policy, wanted a better relationship with Russiam and were generally sympathetic to the Russian people. Ohhh right, you just care about one Russian, and you've said "Who cares" when it comes to Putin's abuse of human rights and his pillaging of the Russian economy. That being the case, can you guess what a Russian solider would fight for?
not really. I'm no more interested in Russia then I am any other population.. I took on my old Libya blog
( which i sort of keep up here) > Libya News and Interests <

out of curiosity, and because Libya was central to supplying weapons to Syria after the Hillary/Obama war of destruction 2011.

My interest in Putin is mostly as a way to improve relations, as NATO expansion has cost us dearly.
Russia is a major military power, and it's being forced out of the European sphere means it becomes more aligned w/China. Russian weapons are 2nd only to the US and superior to China -but China has the money to expand their threats

Which is obviously not in our interest

FREEDOM FOR ALL

Real soldiers either come of military families and take it for granted or, much more commonly, are poor and in need of work. After a while they may kid themselves about flags, military bands and all that crap, but they basically fight for money, surely?

That is probably one reason, a big reason. I am sure there are thousands of different reasons individual have to take into consideration. My understanding is that my brother joined the Air Force to earn money for college, earn a second college degree, and further his career options. As a air force desk jockey I think he would laugh at the concept he was a warrior "fighting for our freedoms".

I have a cousin who served as a junior officer in the Red Army. I'm pretty sure they had conscription at that time in the Soviet Union, so I got the impression he did it as his legal duty, not for money.

My step father was conscripted into world war two, so he obviously had not choice and I don't think fighting the Japanese was high on his list of priorities, so again it was a legal obligation. I know for a fact he would have laughed at the assertion he was "fighting for the flag" or for "our freedoms".

A lot of people have worn uniform, laddie, including me. I am not allowed to call you 'child' but you can call me 'shit', apparently. Truly American!

Odd that many that never bothered to serve are the most patriotic & often warlike.....

The dirty bastard dodged the draft 5 times & these fools worship him & his phony pretentious patriotism............

He, or rather it, is simply using patriotism, as have many that have come before it as a means to manipulate fools, tug/fool their emotions etc etc etc........... Sad thing is even after all these years, it still works............:palm:

Of course. But the people doling out the consequences should ask themselves why they needed to make what Kap did about the flag, instead of talking for even a minute about what his protest was actually about.

people didn't make it about the flag. Kap did. From day one.

"“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”"

World War 2?????????????????? What are you? Fucked in the head or something? Has liberalism got you that fucked up that you think WW2 was not a threat to this country?
I see. So fighting to protect a country that denies you basic human rights doesn't factor into the equation? Most of WW2 entailed pushing back against Hitler, and the Japanese who were moving to take over that part of the world. What threat was posed to these shores?

None right as long you as you weren't at Pearl Harbor or does that not count as America?
