yeah i hear you but while cecession IS perfectly ok when the union ceases to be mutually beneficial, DC will never surrender the control and will destroy 40% of the economy and 600m lives in the effort. Who is threatening to succeed? It came up with Governor Perry in Texas a couple of years ago. It seems to me if there was a growing chorus that a state is trying to position itself to succeed the media would be all over it. I can't imagine we wake up one morning with the lead story saying 'Nebraska is no longer part of the Union'.
 
again... of all these states with supposedly vibrant secession movements, what state has the greatest percentage of its population supporting that movement, and what is that percentage?

The north required the south while the south did not require the north back in the day. Lincoln knew he cound not enrich his cronies with public works scams withno south so he was perfectly willing to go scortched earth and in fact HAD to conquor instead of negotiate to further his political corruption. Nobody ever seems to question how it was that the rest of the known world shuttered slavery virtually blood free while we took a very different and needless path.

Am I talking about an actual secession or the threat of a secession?

Can you understand that what is needed is a confrontation with the federal government which is what a state threatening to secede will automatically create. There are two important things to consider here,

1. A world stage for the state threatening to secede so it can voice it's grievances against the fed and more importantly,

2, The fed being forced to explain why the state has no right to secede. The fed will then have to answer this very important question before the world. Why does part of your country wish to leave? It will be the fed and the fed alone that will be put on trial before the world's civilized countries and not the threatening to secede state. And that is the whole point, a creation of a constitutional crisis.

For as many legal angles the fed will use along with trying to intimidate the citizens of the state with it's justice Department and the IRS and it's legion of lawyers, the state will counter with it's own army of lawyers defending it and it's citizens.
