2 days ago — The US Northeast is so short on heating oil that the fuel used to power home furnaces is being rationed even before the start of winter.

A perfect storm is taking place in the diesel market, with dwindling diesel reserves, a drought on the Mississippi River pushing more product to rail and truck, and a possible rail strike leading to a surge in prices that is expected to continue.

Diesel prices have increased by 33% for November deliveries.

“The national average price for diesel today is $5.30 per gallon and is expected to go up 15 to 20 cents in the next few weeks,” said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, LLC.

Reserves for diesel this time of year have not been this low since 1951, with the greatest shortfall in the Northeast region including New York and New England.

Tucker again made the mistake of claiming that we are likely to run out in less than a month, which is disappointing, but otherwise he is right. OilPrice.com which tends to be really good claims that the problem is getting worse not better.

Better go out and chop some wood like they're doing in Europe. Nothing like reliable 18th Century technology to come to the rescue...

I just had my heating oil tank filled: $5.57/ gallon. A standard household tank is 375 gallons. To fill that costs over $2000. Let's Go Brandon.

Pellet stoves are huge, surely pellets will be in shortage soon. My Moms last husband (who built an underground house himself, his own plans) burns corn.

Yea, nothing like large pellet stove plants producing massive amounts of pollution and chopping down whole forests to get the wood...

Everywhere you look the "green energy" movement has been not just a failure but a huge failure.

You might think we humans would learn, but we dont really do much of that anymore.

Pellets are made from sawdust. There will never be a shortage of sawdust.

Have you been paying attention to how some states are conducting a war against logging, and that American home building is in the pits so a lot less lumber is needed?
