Didnt pay for firefighting service: house burns!

the guy claims he forgot...if it can be established that he has paid regularly in prior years and simply didn't pay this year, then the fire department is in the wrong

with that said, this guy chose to live in an area that he knew or should have known did not have fire service, if he wants "free" fire service, live in the incorporated areas....people live in unincorporated areas for a reason and many times it is to avoid paying certain taxes, like the fire dept. tax....

so, unless this guy can show he regularly paid, tough luck

WRONG. It is a public fire department bound by local policies. A private fire department could have negotiated the situation.

This is not a for-profit business. It's a socialized service by definition; the community organization owns the means of production, which is the equipment to fight fires. It's fascist because it suppresses its opposition per your example, which is letting the guy's house burn when they had the opportunity to stop it.

Actually Ice Dancer your WRONG. It was a PRIVATE service, because he wasn't in their township. Aka he had to pay a fee to get coverage...Which he didn't do.

If it was a public fire fighting service, his house would have been saved.

Firefighters in South Fulton, Tennessee refused to respond when Gene Cranick's house was burning down. Cranick reportedly did not pay the $75 annual fire protection fee required of homeowners living outside South Fulton city limits.

In the past, fire protection wasn't always a government duty. Insurance companies funded the business by selling fire protection to homeowners. If you had the insurance company's medallion on your house, the fire company would put out the flames. If not, your house would burn.

Imagine the outrage if big, corporate insurance agnencies did the same thing today. Apparently, it's not only still legal to do that in Tennessee, it's the municipal governments running the racket. Residents call it "Pay to Spray."
According to a report in the Union City Messenger, the Pay to Spray system is for rural homeowners living outside city borders. The cities provide fire protection for taxpaying residents inside city limits, but rural folks only get protected if they opt to pay a fee, which in South Fulton is 75 bucks.

It's reported that Cranick or his neighbor offered to pay whatever it took to get the fire department to respond, but they were told it was too late. According to the Messenger story, South Fulton's mayor compared the rural fee to an insurance premium and held that if the fire department responded to houses that didn't pay the fee, there would be no incentive to pay it.

The homeowner was NOT in the area where public firefighting service was available. Hence, he was in a private firefighting area. Hence, why he had the VOLUNTARY fee to pay if he wanted it. Hence, the South Felton mayor said as an example its a INSURANCE PREMIUM (PRIVATE!) .

What a dumbass. Let me give you another simple example. In Canada, healthcare is free (a public service). However, if your a tourist from lets say Japan, and you get into an accident in Canada. The tourist will have to pay for the health care (aka a private service).

The fire department is not a public municipality. Do you even know the definition of municipality.

A private company wouldn't have negotiated during the situation either. This isn't the 1800s and the barter system doesn't work anymore.

The problem is your too stupid to understand the difference between a fire department and a firefighting service. They aren't always the same, and in this case they weren't.

The fire department can be publicly funded, but the fire fighting service does not have to be. Hence why there are cops who work as bouncers at night clubs during off hours.

They have no obligation to work there because they arent getting paid by the police department but they do work at night because they are being paid via private service.

Fuck you! This isn't Canada and you don't know what the fuck you are talking about! The policy of the SFFD is that for areas outside of the city limits must pay an anual fee to have fire protection.

South Fulton Fire is a public municipality. Your IQ was absent to begin with dork!

A graph at their city website shows they have 3 full time firefighter and 2 part time. They do not have a volunteer fire department
