Detroit voters to decide if pot should be legal in the city

By Todd A. Heywood 6/16/10 4:11 PM
The Detroit City Council on Wednesday approved a ballot measure for the November election which would legalize marijuana possession in the city.
Last month the Coalition for a Safer Detroit turned in 6,100 petition signatures calling for a change in the law. Under the proposal, it would be legal to possess up to one ounce of marijuana on private property, but it would still be illegal to drive while under the influence of the weed.

The petitions left the council in the position of approving the law, or forcing a vote. The Detroit News reports the body chose to let voters make that decision in November. The body made the decision to let the issue fall on the ballot after Dennis Mazurek, an attorney for the city, told the council it could not approve a law which contradicted state law.

Sorry it's a shitty article, but the news is no less awesome. Basically the bill allows up to 1oz per person on private property.

As a Libertarian I have to say that sucks.

The next thing you'll see is the poor drug cartels doing with less $, and what about the poor children? What about the courts, and the so called free lawyers at tax payer $. Which may effect the judges $, and then you have the bad cop on the take. Oh yes the Mexican army.

Prohibition never changes.

Now we have free health care. I can't wait for my weekly piss test with other individuals $

Is this freedom are what?

shows how right wing and stick up the ass intollerant this country is. You have to have a city near bankrupcy before you decide to stop using something way less harmfull than beer or cigarettes as a reason to arrest the minorities the right hates.

Meh, you have to stop your routine for five seconds due to laughter, but nothing like the delay when you make a dirty joke about neocons... Even the klan has evolved and become ultramodern in some ways!

who's shocked the uneducated part time warrior is supporting the modern Klan. LOL

your hating on poor people is about as buddist as Vitter is a good example of family values. Kudo's on bringing that comedic value to the board.
