DeSantis seems a clown.
But, I don't live in Florida.
So I am willing to look past that if he runs the state well.
To me? No politician is worth SHIT if he/she cannot balance the budget AND keep spending down (during peacetime - no declared war).
1) first I saw DeSantis posted a record surplus.
Fantastic!!!
And I was about to say something like: 'Wow...this guy is great after all!'
But, then I looked and saw a 20% increase in spending since 2019 FY (fiscal year).
And I wondered where he got all that money?
Turns out?
The added revenue is STRICTLY from (temporary?) federal, pandemic-related relief dollars.
Below is from Page 8 of the link below it.
It is a pdf file.
It also shows the annual, Florida budget sizes over the past 14 FY's.
'Considering FY 2020-21 and FY 2021-22, the budget has had a staggering average annual growth rate of approximately 17.6 percent, including
significant boosts in Education, General Government, NREGMT, and Human Services.
Considering the substantial jump in the operating budget, the increase is driven by an influx of federal
pandemic-related relief dollars and not by increased general revenue collections or investments.'

2) Florida has over $135 billion in debt.

Why the fuck did he not use that budget surplus to pay down the debt?
Instead?
He increased the size of his government.
Massively.
But these federal funds are temporary (I assume).
What is he going to do when the fed funds dry up?
He will either have to cut WAY back on spending, raise taxes hugely or run a huge deficit.
Don't get me wrong.
Most democrats have COMPLETELY forgotten the term 'fiscal responsibility' that they knew, so well, during Clinton's term in office.
And I strongly approve of a budget surplus.
But the way DeSantis is using this temporary(?) fed money?
Sounds, highly irresponsible.
Like he is buying prosperity (votes) today...for a fiscal mess, tomorrow.
Reminds me of The Simpsons episode - Trash Of The Titans'.

Once again...I DESPISE, both parties.
