Board members picked by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to oversee the governance of Walt Disney World said Wednesday that their Disney-controlled predecessors pulled a fast one on them by passing restrictive covenants that strip the new board of many of its powers.

The current supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said at a meeting that their predecessors last month signed a development agreement with the company that gave Disney maximum developmental power over the theme park resort's 27,000 acres in central Florida.

In a statement, Disney said all agreements were above board and took place in public.

"All agreements signed between Disney and the District were appropriate, and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida's Government in the Sunshine law," the statement said.

“This essentially makes Disney the government,” board member Ron Peri said during Wednesday’s meeting, according to video posted by an Orlando television station. “This board loses, for practical purposes, the majority of its ability to do anything beyond maintaining the roads and maintaining basic infrastructure.”

One agreement signed by the outgoing board – which restricts the new board from using any of Disney’s “fanciful characters” – is valid until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England,” according to a copy of the deal included in the February 8 meeting packet.

DeSantis doesn't seem to be A list material.

Other than banning school books, flying asylum seekers around the country on luxury private chartered jets, and losing to Mickey Mouse's lawyers, is he actually known for doing anything substantive?

The funny part of that is they have to sue. That means they have to show standing. That means they have to prove that the previous board couldn't enter into any contracts. They will be questioned about why they exist as a board, who appointed them and for what purpose. DeSantis will be deposed.

The fat lady is going to be singing for a long time and DeSantis is going to want to avoid this at all costs since he will have to produce everything he has tried to hide about his conversations to go after Disney.

How can DeSantis stand up to a dictator if he can't even stand up to a mouse?
 
There is some funny stuff in the covenant between Walt Disney World and the Reedy Creek District.

There is a section on nouns and pronouns which states that:
nouns and pronouns which are used in any particular gender shall include any other gender.

Yes. the agreement does seem to state that there are more than 2 genders.
 
The agreement also states that all lawsuits brought under the agreement must be conducted before a judge in Orange County.
No jury trial is allowed and the suits can only be brought in Orange county.
